Has 1.21 Broken XP?

I’ll be honest, you spelled out a way to generate tons of mobs and jumped right to why that breaks XP without really explaining the A->B. Ender Enders have been ridiculously easy to build for a while now, and generate XP faster than the player can take it in. How would a crazy fast silverfish farm be any different? I mean it’s not even particularly easier, as you have to find allays and make potions every time.
  • I'm not really sure we can blame 1.21 for breaking the XP system when we had Ender Enders and mending before that point.

Don't see how this is any worse than your typical mob farm. I don't care if they leave it.

I don't think this is going to be that much of an issue. An Allay/Potion of Infestation based XP farm requires you to go out and wrangle Allays and keep them hit with potions of infestation to produce a bunch of silverfish. Not only is this a lot of overhead and maintenance, but silverfish don't produce that much XP. Already existing Guardian and Endermen based XP farms require much less overhead (just isolate an area so they all spawn in a specific spot) and produce significantly more XP.

oh no...lingering potion of infestation...with lingering potion of oozing...and wither roses...

Infested Stone is not obtainable in survival mode in any way, Silk Touch does not work on it, so it would not make much sense as a brewing ingredient.

"It's kind of boring" Yeah so are normal XP farms. 99.5% of people just copy mob farm designs from the internet. This is no different. I actually like this better because it's more intuitive and doesn't require an understanding of Minecraft's bullshit esoteric mob spawning rules.
  • Sarc, are you not aware that current XP farms plenty fast, while being easier to construct as they do not require an allay.
  • I think this is a non-issue. How does the rate of these silverfish farms stack up to other popular xp farms, like zombified Piglin or endermen farms? You dont get any items from the silverfish, just XP, which i feel like is an important factor. Plus the commitment of finding then duping allays, getting a wither rose and brewing the potion... makes it balanced in my eyes.

I really can't see how this could be an issue. It doesn't negatively effect the game.

Actually, this might be the most interactive and fun xp farm possible

Looks like I'll be saving allays from pillager outposts just to torture it for free XP early game. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

6:18 It isn't actually possible to get infested Stone in survival mode at the moment so that couldn't be an option

I actually prefer this method to other experience farms. I typically dislike AFK farms but this involves a lot more work to set up and it requires you to use ingredients to maintain the farm and keep it running.
  • @blar3499
has farming xp ever really been fun though?
  • @lasercraft32
I mean... Endermen grinders exist already, so I don't think its that big of a concern really.

Exp has been broken for a long time. Last year when 1.20 came out my friend group made a server. 3 days later someone had built a zombified piglin farm atop the nether roof, we had infinite and fast exp, gold and rotten flesh. (I love playing with villagers so rotten flesh and gold were insanely good for getting emeralds from my priests)

I have been using my enderman farm in every single world for the past 6 years. Its very easy to setup after you kill the dragon and it generates more xp than you can pick up. I dont think this will break the game 😂
  • @gavinblosser163
is no one going to mention enderman farms? gets me to level 30 from zero in like a minute
  • @LazerDisk
I don’t think we should pretend that 1.21 will be the thing to break or ruin XP in Minecraft. XP as a system has always been a bad idea in a game like Minecraft. It limits what a player can do to progress and bottlenecks progress arbitrarily and near the end.
