Nemona is the new rival character that was just introduced in the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer. She seems pretty interesting, but what you may have not realized is that she could be hiding a BIG secret. In this video, I will explore why that is, and what that secret could be!

  • I think Nemona being bad at throwing Pokeballs is just a random thing which might result in most of her Pokémon having high catch rates
  • I don't see the connection between a name meaning "nobody" and evil villain. If anything its sad isn't it? Maybe she has a tragic story with a rough upbringing, possibly an orphan. Or maybe she is just intended for the player to project a personality onto or there is some way to decide how you want your rival to act. The only way I can see nobody meaning evil is if it implies she is soulless.
  • I hope Nemona's team is more akin to Blue, Barry, and Wally in ORAS. I want her to be well balanced and have a lot of type diversity. I want her to feel like a real rival that keeps me on my toes.

Personally I just noticed how Nemona is probably the first female rival character that isn't just "the other player character" counterpart to a male player. I know the friend group in Kalos included Shauna, but your main rival was still your player character's counterpart
  • New version exlussive professors also broke the rule that every genuine Pokemon professors are named after some kind of tree. This may also hide some secret that is associated with the new professors.
  • What I found really interesting was hearing a reddit post that brought up the meaning of Nemona's name, which is likely inspired by Anemones. These are another type of flower, but they are ephemeral, so it's very interesting that they chose a flower that only lives for a short time. Something else I found out was there are two other characters from the most recent game with just as interesting latin names: Cogita and Volo. Cogita's name is a variation of her japanese name, Cogito, which means "I think" in latin, while Volo's means "I wish". Cogita's refers to how the only way to know one's existence is the fact that one thinks, and she lives a pretty simple life away from most people. However, Volo's is kind of an interesting twist (not sure if there are any significant references in literature) where he basically exists because he has a goal he wishes to accomplish similar to Cyrus: create a perfect world with Arceus's power. Nemona's name, Nemo, can refer to something philosophical as well: "the theoretical fourth part of the human psyche that emphasizes the self's insignificance and meaninglessness". The primary three are Id (instinct/desire), Superego (moral conscience), and Ego (reality/compromise of id and superego), while Nemo essentially refers to emptiness. I'm still not sure how it fits in exactly as the other three are essentially part of a scale, but I'll be paying attention if this theme is somehow present in the games with other characters (especially if they are connected to Nemona).

She's my favorite of the new designs. Hope she's not an antagonist. These deep dives are always fun and speculating is even funner, though.

I feel like ever since Game Freak started including twist villains into their games, the fanbase has been as paranoid as the Kirby fandom whenever they see something small and cute. Not saying this theory isn't possible, but at this point I don't even know what to believe.
  • i think there's going to be time travel shenanigans happening in scarlet and violet and depending on what version you are playing, nemona is revealed to be either the player's ancestor in scarlet or the player's descendant in violet

Of course, the rival is hiding something. I mean, all the rivals are hiding something from the get-go, we always find a secret from all our rivals. Like Silver is secretly Giovanni's son, Barry is the son of the boss of the Battle Tower, Hugh had this very bad experience with Team Plasma 5 years ago, Hau's Father is missing because he's traumatized by living under his Hala's shadow, Gladion is secretly Lillie's brother, Marnie is secretly a Gym Leader's sister, Bede had this backstory with chairman Rose, and so on and so on. Of course the Rival is going to have some secrets we don't know on the get-go, we all anticipate this kind of setting. I did speculate Volo being the main antagonist of Legends Arceus when he was introduced in the trailer. It is actually very odd that his name Volo is consistent in all languages, either being literally Volo or something that has the meaning of Volo, which means "I wish, I hope" in latin. It is a trend for Pokemon characters named after plants, so names that are not from plants are quite odd in a lot of ways. So yeah, Nemona's name could have some weird meanings behind it. Pretty sure all the names for important characters are intentionally given for some purposes that could possibly hint at some weird things, but what will it be? Just like Volo, I don't think we are seeing the answer before the game is out.

What if one twist, Nemona is actually good at throwing and she steal a pokemon from you. Another idea, Nemona is older then she looks, she's actually immortal/eternally young like AZ. My reason is the whole past/future theme this game has.

It would be interesting to find out that it is some sort of hand brace, due to a hand that was broken so bad it couldn’t heal properly.
  • @ROBHAVOC
If she’s hiding a secret, I’m gonna call it now and say she’s connected to the evil team(likely the daughter of the leader) and is part of the school to be a mole to gather intel for the team.
  • @adamsiq4851
I don't want to think this is true, but being a "no name" personality could have other importance. What if she's hiding her real name because she comes from a traumatic background she ran away from? We haven't a character lie about their name before, so it would be a first for the game series.
  • @evefarrel
Actually the bad at throwing pokeballs is not a completely new thing in pokemon. In the manga Kris can't throw pokeballs that well because of an arm injury. So she ends up kicking her pokeballs to catch pokemon like it's a soccer ball. Could be something like that.
  • @AshXXMayftw
See, I would believe this if every other time fans have speculated something like this it wound up being true. Remember when fans believed Lillie was a U.B? Or how about Leon being in cahoots with the main villain of SWSH? Not saying it can't happen, but I'm not exactly counting on it.
  • I mostly think that her glove in her right arm is not only for the new mechanism, but it probably is as well to support her arm so she can throw pokeballs better and she cannot do it without it.
  • @PragMagik
My theory is the Professor from the opposite game will be the antagonist (Sada for Violet and Turo for Scarlet) and that Nemona will be their protege or something like that.

If your going off that Nemona Nemo thing it's also from 20,000 leagues under the Sea. Nemo is the dangerous captain of the ship that is attacking others.
