China Growth Slows as Weak Retail Sales Drag Economy

Published 2024-07-14
China’s economic growth fell to the worst pace in five quarters as retail sales slowed. The latest data piles pressure on Beijing officials to boost investor and business confidence at the Third Plenum, the twice-a-decade policy meeting which is happening this week.

Hang Seng Bank, China Chief Economist Dan Wang and Li Cheng of the University of Hong Kong's Centre on Contemporary China and the World break down the numbers on "Bloomberg: The China Show."

"Basically globalization fed & pulled 1.4 Chinese people from poverty & now somebody emerged from a cave & tell globalization how to behave..." China's economic miracle.

Didn't know that China owns the achievements of everyone who has a "Chinese" name.

if Dan Wang observes China only through an 'economist lens', she can only get a partial understanding. Look at the bigger picture, from a stragtegic standpoint.

  • No hate, but it raised my eyebrows a little when Li pointed out the research with "Chinese names" instead of just saying it's coming out of China

EU 1st half 2024 projected 1.0% growth. Comment given was gradual expansion amid geopolitical risks. China 1st half 2024 5.0% growth. Comment economic slowdown with possible low local consumption and problematic construction sector. Negative outlook for 2024 whole year and 2025. What a different!
  • Why spent time and money to have Li Cheng to talk about history and never tell the truth! Quite waste of our time

As China PRC 1Q GDP is 5.3% compare to USA's 1.6%. You do understand China GDP is of 1.4 Billions population, right.
