you can boil salt out of water but you have to collect the steam into a different container, all the salt will stay behind in the original container, the pane of glass in raft is there to condense the steam onto so the water drips down into a different pan. if you just boil salt water all the water will evaporate and the salt is left behind. thats what distilled water is, its steam that's been condensed back down so its just pure H2O and nothing else.
