Playing SampleTank on my iPad2 with my Akai EWI4000s via iRig MIDI. (Note: I meant to say CC74 for "Cutoff" not CC64). Be sure to watch the last minute (from 10:55).

I use my MIDI jet Pro for wireless Midi from Akai EWI4000s to iRig Midi, iRig Midi is hooked up to iPad. From iPad headphone jack I use a cable that has 1/8th inch stereo (iPad end) to a left and right pair of mono 1/4 inch on the other end that go into my amp. That's it. I also carry a 1/8 inch to RCA stereo pair cable for when I jam with DJs I can just hook my iPad audio into the house mix thru the DJ mixer.
  • I have looked everywhere for how to actually get the EWI to work. An instruction video showing how to just get it to connect would be good. I did set the breath control on EWI and Channel 7 on SampleTank. No sound.

Hello Bernie, thank You for posting this great video. at some point in the video, you mentioned a difference between the ewi 4000s and USB. What is this difference and how would it affect the sound ? Do you think O can have breath control using one of the more advances Iconnectivity 1 or the new 2+ ?
  • @BernieKenerson
In the EWIUSB you can set breath to send two controls so it is best to use CC7 (volume) and CC74 (cutoff). This is better overall than just using volume.

Hi Bernie, it is possible to load user samples (eg. Uillean pipes) on this ipad's version of Sample Tank? In case not, do you know what app can do it? Thanks and great video!!

I’m playing an EWI USB with SampleTank on iOS, but I can’t figure out how to get breath velocity control the volume. Is that a midi setting in ST, or Do you go back to the EWI software on the PC to make those settings?
  • @joeyrchapa
Can you explain how you hook everything up to use at a gig? How much more equipment besides irig and iPad is needed?
  • @BernieKenerson
The best I've found so far is SampleTank. I've been gigging with it. In SampleTank make sure the 'Velocity Curve' under the 'Settings' Menu is set to zero. EWI needs to be set for breath to send CC7 volume.
  • @markmiller66
Excellent. If it's good enough for you to gig, that's enough of an endorsement for me!

Hello, greetings and thanks for such good videos, I have problems with the configuration of the parameters of the EWI, I'm doing something wrong, when you blow the first note sounds at a low volume and when I move my fingers over the keys if it sounds like good volume, I have properly set the sensitivity, can you please post parameter by parameter settings as the EWI to work with IK Multimedia. thanks
  • @gopolarisstudio
Does it apply the volume to the MIDI instrument that you blow? Like could you do a sforzando on any plugin?

Hi bernie, i did turn on the br v.o but its not reaponding properly, sometimes it doesnt make a sound , sometimes have low notea, and then the sample tank riffs turn on by itself , pls help me :)
  • @markmiller66
Bernie, You mentioned sample tank doesn't have breath control. Are there any iPad synths with sampled sounds that do? I'm new to wind synths so forgive any naive questions. I have the 4000s and would like to drive my iPad for sampled instruments. I also have a MacBook Air and could go that route but the small, light formfactor of the iPad would be great for performances.
  • @Fraiyia
So you have a usb -midi adaptor ? . I a. Getting the ewi 4000s to use with my midi piano .
  • @BernieKenerson
Wrong. You use the EWIUSB configuration page in Aria to set your Breath 1 CC to 07 and you can also set Breath 2 CC to 74 to control the cutoff which is good with synth sounds.
  • @TooSlowTube
You can use MIDI Bridge to make the EWI4000s also control the cut off. The problem is, you really need to set a different range or response for each patch to make that work well - i.e. a minimum and maximum value for the cut off, not just full range. AFAIK, there's no way to do that on the iOS version of SampleTank.
  • @elsaxofonista
I already set the parameters of midi and sounds much better, I have a problem with latency, I think it's much latency, also I have problem with changing tone ewi, when I put another sound in SampleTank changes the pitch again thank you very much for the help, and sorry for my bad English ...
  • @virtualdudes
So, how do you do that on the EWI4000S? Also, how do you set up the iPad version of SampleTank to accept breath control? Thanks!
