Welcome to a SPECIAL episode of Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be going back and taking a look at 60 Harry Potter Plot Holes discussed on the channel over the last few years. I’ve cut some out for an even 60, so please be aware of some inconsistent numbering. Also, I’ve tried my best to level out the audio across the videos, but in some instances there is a bit of variation.

Without further ado, let’s dive in.

The last plothole -- how did Sirius buy Harry's broom? -- was explained quite well in the book. Sirius explained to Harry that Crookshanks delivered the order form, and that Sirius included instructions to take the gold from Sirius' vault at Gringott's. Goblins wouldn't have helped the Ministry track down a wizard. Goblins wouldn't have cared.

From the beginning list: Harry DID try to contact Sirius after his vision. He used Umbridge's fireplace and spoke to Kreacher who lied to him about Sirius's whereabouts.

A weird thing I remember was how petunia talked about lily using magic when she came home for the summer but that should have been illegal

Mrs. Weasley knew the platform number. She was just giving Genny a chance to pipe in with "9 3/4!" so that she would feel included.

I think the best explanation for the Stone argument is that Flamel wasn’t ready to give it up quite yet but because he saw how dangerous it would be in the wrong hands it convinced him to let Albus destroy it
  • The reason why the pensive doesn't work is because Fudge was determined to not publicly acknowledge he was back. fudge knew he was back but didn't want to admit it. Barty crouch junior was captured, we had Cedric's body, and both Harry and mad eye could testify Voldemort is back. However fudge was not unaware of Voldemorts return he simply refused to admit it

On Colin's camera: Old cameras work by a basic chemical reaction. The lens focuses light on to the film, and the silver in the film reacts. If the magic affected the camera, then potions wouldn't work either. Or any other normal chemical reaction. Tou wouldn't even need to polish any sort of metal, because it would never oxidize.

8:10 I think charlie's old wand that goes to ron was a wand that had been in the Wesley family in general. When he graduated he probably was bought a brand new wand as a gift much in the same way Percy was bought an owl. But since charlie didnt need the old hand me down wand, it was passed to Ron. I always thought wizarding families, specially old ones like the Weasley's might have had a couple of extra old wands lying around that belonged to dead family members. In that way the wands would also work well enough, since they could tell they're still within the same family.

Harry didn’t know about the two/way mirror until after Sirius’s death.
  • No, Molly wasn't trying to remember the platform number, she was teaching a 10 year old Ginny to remember where she is to find platform 9 3/4 and in turn helped Harry after he asked her.

A lot of these aren't actually plot holes, unless you've only watched the movies. Pottermore explains most of them, and even if you haven't read the books some of them are just common sense

For the sirius polyjuice theory: first it takes about a month to produce and most often sirius acted for instant gratification. He was impatient and decided things on a whim. Also, though it was easy for the trio to make in COS, they had the advantage of having most of the ingredients readily available and stole the rest. How was sirius supposed to get ingredients when he was confined at home and others didnt want him out so they wouldnt help him
  • I forget the book, but... as for the poor wizards segment, it was shown they don't conjure the food, at least thats what i was led to believe in my multiple read throughs. I thought the house elves made it in the kitchens and Dumbledore merely relocated it to the tables via magic
  • 23:38 In the books it explains that after sirius found out that Peter was living with the Weasley’s (he saw the daily prophet article about the Weasley’s winning prize money and going to Egypt), he was heard muttering in his sleep “he’s at Hogwarts” over and over. Fudge thought it was in reference to Sirius wanting to kill Harry, but it’s revealed that Sirius was actually worried about Harry’s safety because he is sharing a dormitory with the man who murdered his parents. So I think that was the major driving force as to why Sirius finally decided to break out. He was only willing to risk it to save Harry

I think that Petunia knew more than she ever let on, because, after all, she didn't want Vernon and her son to see her as a “freak.”She was happy to keep her lips sealed about anything that she may have known. I think Snape didn't say anything about the potion's book, because if Harry had found out that it was Sanpe's, it might have led Harry on a trail to his identity, that he knew his mother, and who Eileen Prince was, which was what Sanpe wanted to be kept from Harry at all costs. Voldemort showed up at the ministry because he was called for help, and probably by Bellatrix. Tom still lost several of his inner circle that night, with only Bellatrix escaping. Not all locks can be unlocked with the unlocking spell, even using certain dodgy knives. Harry found that out while in the DoM. Harry did try to contact Sirius, via Umbridge's floo, where Kreacher lied to Harry about Sirius' whereabouts. Harry didn't remember the mirror until he was packing to leave, where he broke it. Plus, his scar was burning, which addled his thoughts. They flat screwed up on Minerva's age. Polyjuice potion takes six months to brew, if I recall, and he would have needed the ingredients. Sirius could have tried to obtain some from one of the Order's members, but I'd say that Dumbledore told them not to help him leave No. 12. The portkey in the tournament was not a timed portkey, it triggered on touch. Barty made sure that Harry would reach it first. Neither Minerva nor Hagrid wished to leave Harry at the Dursleys, that was all Dumbledore's doing, and he was too cowardly to ring the doorbell. However, it was said that Minerva spent the night watching over things until Petunia found him the next morning. Remember, Dumbledore ordered them to not speak to the Dursleys, they were supposed to be left alone. Something was off about Albus and this. It looks like, from the Cursed Child, that Tom may have been interested in Time Turners, as a plot was made after their destruction in the DoM, to construct one between Malfoy, Nott, and, I think, Rookwood. Stating the above, a big plot hole was the abduction of Fortescue. JKR wrote about him, and why he was to be used. Fortescue was well-trained in magical history, and was another seeker of the Deathly Hallows. He would have been who Tom tortured for information about the Hallows, and especially, where he found out about the Elder Wand. JKR left it be, and didn't mention why he was taken.

#5 I can explain why Dumbledore wasn’t concerned about Hagrid borrowing Sirius’ bike. It’s because that happened before Sirius had cornered Pettigrew. Only after that was Sirius presumed to have been the traitor.

The reason why Dementors affected Harry so much was because he was having Voldemort's fear of death being triggered by them. Since he already had part of his soul it was what made him even more special to the Dementors because they were interested in such a being. It might be a combination to that the scream of his mother was enough to terrify harry.

This is more “plot holes if you didn’t read the books”
