Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review

Hedgehogs may live for 6,5 years on averge, but apparently decay for decades...

I had a lot of fun with this one. It wasn’t narratively outstanding, but as a long time Sonic fan, I walked away happy. I really have to commend the team working on it for listening to fan feedback and completely redesigning/reanimating Sonic. I enjoyed hearing your take on it! I actually reviewed this myself not long ago. Great review!

You hit on so many great points here, since video game movies are historically bad, even an average one will come off a pretty good. Looking at this film and the sequel, it looks like they are taking the MCU approach, in that they want to take the time to build the universe, have the characters turn into the versions of themselves we are used to, and come to an exciting out of this world conclusion. You can tell from all the easter eggs and references (more in the sequel) that the people making decisions are actually fans themselves and want to do the series justice, but at the same time must play along with executive decisions to make the film marketable for families (thus all the human characters to ground the film in reality for parents). I watched this with my kids and we all had a good time, so...mission accomplished.

This movie was way better than I was expecting. I thought it was great. Hopefully, they can address the issues in the sequel...

Sonic may not be my favourite film but I did enjoy it!

I loved this movie, though it's mostly b/c it's exactly what I expected: a fun romp. Sure it's cliche, but that's alright. And Jim Carrey brings home the bacon with his performance.
