So calming and healing. There is no need to compare the musician with other more famous ones. Good music or art work are those that touch your heart and soul, not according to the musician’s fame. I put it on as background music all day long in my house when I am home.

John Field is the OG of the nocturne. No joke.

A peaceful and sweet afternoon, sitting inside the house looking at the garden, listening to birds chirping in the sunlight with a garden of flowers dancing in the middle of a light breeze. That's the feeling of listening to these nocturnes. Life is sweet and simple and everything is so calm that it feels like time has stopped.

Until a few months ago I was obsessed with Chopin's nocturnes, now I have a new obsession... John Field's nocturnes.

I've never heard of this composer before, but my God what a talent, as another commentator has observed, I can see where Chopin got his inspiration. These Nocturnes are an absolute delight.

In 1804, Field made his debut in St. Petersburg at the home of Prince Golitsyn. Soon he won the fame of the best pianist and teacher in St. Petersburg. After concerts in St. Petersburg, which were held with great success, Field decided not to return to his homeland. In Russia, he became a popular performer and composer: since 1804, he regularly gave concerts at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, toured other cities of the empire. Field had many students, in particular, A. I. Dubuc (with whom Field, given his special talent, studied for free), M. I. Glinka, A. N. Verstovsky, A. I. Villuan, A. L. Gurilev etc From 1822, Field lived in Moscow, moving among the Moscow musical bohemia; here he was called "Ivan Romanovich". Field was a frequent visitor to the then fashionable literary and art salons.

J. Field is a contemporary of C. M. von Weber. He was born a full generation before Chopin, more than 10 years before Schubert, and about as much after Beethoven. His music is absolutely charming, but coming between such peaks as Beethoven and Schubert, it was difficult for him not to suffer from their shadows.

The longer I listen to this the more peace it gives me. And peace is very hard to come by in my world. God bless John Field.
