What a great bunch of videos you have of you doing what you love. You live in a place of wonder to me! I only have glacial till to search in Indiana... how envious! And what a good dog!

That place is well worth the drive and has brought me and my gf a lot of joy. If you're just starting out with minerals I suggest the Smart Mine...You will never go home without several nice cabinet specimens.
  • I'm actually going to Vancouver and doing the West Coast as fare down to Cali and back up through Nevada next week....rock hounding the whole way, I'll let you know what I find! Always nice to make friends with a fellow rock hound!

Thanks for the great review.I hope to be able to visit the property myself in a couple of weeks. Good tip on using a long shovel to get at those hard to reach areas. wilkster

The rock's alone look nice. Awesome find i like. That was a good idea to dig in that hole. Oh my God what the hell is that? That's a gigantic crystal.
  • @thirstfast1025
I found an older hole there, pulled out an 11inch 6lb apatite!
  • Thx for posting,I live I'm Whitby...Am a rock hound too. Must cheek out this Smart mine!
  • @necroeasy593
I was wondering why you were going into that dirt until you started pulling out Crystal's from it. It didn't look like anything to me at first. Wow was i wrong you pulled out a lot of nice crystals.

so, I made an account on mindat.org. thanks for the advice. I am already learning SOOOO much more about the bedrock formations in my area in western NY than I had previously known. For example, what I was assuming was the majority of bedrock, was actually siltstone and sandstone that formed on the ancient seafloor that is now my property. the actual solid bedrock, which is shale, is further beneath the false bottom that the sandstone and siltstone have formed in "storm shores"?? or something like that... this explains the immeasurable loads of fossils we've found everywhere!!!! I may not find "precious metals" or super shiny crystals, but there are loads of fossils. I still want crystals though.

Is there a way to set off those mini blasting 🧨 charges without hurting the Crystals . One or two small charges not right in the area where your digging but just like far enough to cuss the rock to fracture ? And not do much damage.. percussion charge.. sending hugs and love from Colorado Springs....Black Dog Out.....!
  • Thaís Channel is good, my angel!
  • The fee still hasn't changed, it's $10, and the owner donates the money to the hospital to help children (can't remember the name of the hospital). As for the minerals, I found lots of red apatite , along with sphere, biotite, and augite. The augite have decent terminations, and form in a layer below the calcite and about the apatite. As for the quality of the apatite, I found plenty of fragments, some quiet large but very few that were terminated. I was talking to a local at another mining spot and he said the reason the apatites are so fragment is because of the freeze and thaw cycle. Not for certain if that is true, but maybe finding specimen deeper buried might help. He suggested going about a metre deep to avoid the broken pieces.
  • I wonder how much it would cost to have some pyrite, apetite, garnets, amethyst, blue barrel, and a few other crystals mailed from Canada to Texas would be?
  • @batboy242
Have you ever tried using expanding cement to break rock or one of the blasters like the Sierra Blaster?
  • @memoryrinehart
I bought a couple Amazonite pieces. I thought until recently they were from the Amazon!
