Leclerc's rookie season was the closest thing to Lewis Hamilton 2007 He had 6 top 7 finishes in a Sauber. I remember Sochi 2018 when he was able to compete with the big three (Mercedes, RB, Ferrari) and knew that he was world champion material

Don't forget that when Mazepin finished ahead of Mick at Monaco, Mick had a fuel issue and dropped back over 30 seconds. He later recovered to catch and attempt to pass Mazepin only to be ordered several times to hold position behind him.

I think Yuki's been properly nobbled by F1's massively reduced testing and practice sessions, and the sport is going to have to look at changing the rules if its going to give rookies a fighting chance. The big exception to Yuki's struggles was Bahrain: where he'd actually spent a decent length of time because of pre-season testing.

Knew it was going to be Charles Leclerc... Anyone who watches F1 and actually pays attention, knew that year that he's one of the biggest talents of this sport and is multi-world champion in the right car. He then did what Lewis did to Alonso but on Vettel. Lewis and Alonso were pretty much on par with Lewis getting the team treatment after he showed his amazing performances in the first few rounds, and the exact same happened to Leclerc. Yes, Seb had more reliability issues than Leclerc, but Leclerc still outqualified him just like Lewis did to Alonso. Max >= Leclerc >= Russel. These are my top 3 best "next gen" drivers, in that order. I believe Lando has potential to also be part of this group, since he is smashing Ricciardo harder than Max did in 2017 and 2018, and actually, Max didn't exactly "smashed" Ricciardo in those years either. But again, car/driver harmony matters so much.

To be fair to Latifi, he really is improving. His qualifying isn’t really there yet and obviously he’ll never be George Russell, but his race performances have been very solid this season and I think he’s earned a 3rd year in the sport

I think the most underrated rookie season ever was Jacques Villeneuve in 1996. Steady P2 and beating Schumacher in the standings.

We did have sole exceptionnal rookies last years. Clearly Ocon and Leclerc are above anyone else there but Gasly was also amazing

it’s 2019 with Lando, George and Albon just because of their quality.
