Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 215
In this episode of our boat restoration, we finish installing the standing rigging so we can bring the sails to the game. But for that, Ben has to climb the mast and weld up there! Also, the sails are on board now! So we are closer than ever to lifting anchor and leaving this bay!

💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

Everything is coming together. No need to rush . I do agree with MP that a change of scenery could add a bit of enthusiasm to the team but completely understand about wanting things right before hoisting the sails and taking off. It will be what it will be and I'm still happy to see your smiling faces every Sunday!

I truly respect your thoughtful and thorough approach to preparing to sail. In the world of airplanes we have a saying that says there are bold pilots and there are old pilots but there are no old bold pilots. Your thorough approach tells me that you'll be old sailors. Take your time. Prepare completely and know your course. You'll be sailing when it's the right time. And, you'll get to where you're going.
  • Ben and MP, dont let the ones wanting you to rush to get sailing bother you. You need to make sure everything is top notch, able to handle whatever you put her through. Take your time, make sure its done right the first time and not having to fix it later down the road! Keep up the good work!
  • Good morning favorite YouTube folks! What a whirlwind of activity! We’re glad you got a break from the weather and could get at it. You two are absolutely remarkable in your determination to finish your home. We are always impressed.
  • Take your time ! I had a 35’ sailboat for years and people don’t understand the tension and power on lines and sails on a big boat , a boat of your size can produce such power under sail that it will move tons of weight ,but if something goes wrong because of breakage or wrong size it could mean anything from a easy repair to someone getting killed , you don’t have to be pushed by remarks form novices ! Your doing it right ! Keep it up !

OK. Welding is tough to do well. Climbing a mast - rather you than me. Welding while up a mast on a rocking boat at anchor is another level, Ben. I am in awe. You will sail when you are ready. Don't feel pushed.
  • Your "FrankenDingy" is a TUGBOAT!! It may look shabby but it appears extremely stable and capable. Hauling a lot of weight, it rides well and is serving your needs.
  • @johnduer7428
Yes I would love to see the sails up. However watching the journey is very enjoyable. I’m envious of both of you. Enjoy the journey.😊

You guys are crushing it, way to go. Looks like your having more fun working the boat in the lagoon than when it was on land. Anyone who can work that high up with a welder while the boat is rocking has seawater for blood.

OMG! I've done a lot of welding in strange field conditions, BUT, Ben welding on the end of that moving stick 40 feet above the ocean has me beat. Awesome!
  • You guys have come a long way. Keep up the great work, and it will come together soon. Have a fantastic week ahead
  • Take your time and get it right, key board warriors lives don't depend on it like yours and your delightful sweethearts does❤
  • Looking great. I love the table and watching you get everything ready for sailing. It will take a little time, but will all come together in the end. Keep well and safe. James.

  • I certainly see a huge change in your excitement. I love it , yippee!! Oklahoma USA
  • @ScotChef
That dinghy is starting to grow on me, i can see it now, well spotted mp, very wise of you 👌🏻 broken remade strong ✊🏻
  • @danpoczynek
Try 1/2 hitch a rope onto your stays then using the ropes to pull the stays together so you and MP don’t struggle
  • @Fuzzy1563
Hey guys, keep on doing what you are doing and the way you are doing it. You are the ones who have to ensure your safety in the future so that your travels are enjoyable, and Yaba can take you where you want to go and bring you back
