After watching the new Marvel movie, Black Widow, we were all left with one question. Did Red Guardian ACTUALLY Fight Captain America? A lot of people have tried their hand at answering this but I think they've missed the BIGGEST twist of the story. Yes, Red Guardian fought Captain America... but it was NOT Steve Rogers! Who was it? You'll have to watch to find out!

I thought the payoff would be a moment when Alexi was fighting Taskmaster: Alexi realizes that Taskmaster is using some of caps moves, and does exactly what he says in the story (grabs shield, pushes him out the window)

The Red Guardian was cheated in this movie. Like every fight scene with the Red Guardian is either for comedic effect for cuts away for anything interesting happens
  • The fight between captain America and the red guardian could’ve actually happened because in endgame when cap went back in time to put the infinity stones back he went to go live his life and maybe during 1983-1984 the one we know as Old man cap may have actually fought The red Guardian while the other captain America was still frozen in ice

That intro was awesome. My favorite part was when Steph proves she loves MatPat because otherwise she wouldn't have been able to get the Soul Stone by sacrificing him otherwise
  • @Phuskooz
I really liked the scene where the Red Guardian is struggling to put on his suit because THE DUDE IS A SUPER SOLDIER USING SUPER STRENGTH and he’s still struggling!!
  • @deathsyth8888
He fought "A" Captain America, not "The" Captain America. So he was technically correct. The best kind of correct. Unless he made it all up for Russian prison cred and then went delusional believing his own lies.

Perhaps a mini theory on Widow’s mother? That plot point regarding her being a feisty woman who looked for her child relentlessly, before eventually dying and getting buried under a supposed tree (?), never really paid off. Or maybe I’m just crazy.
  • Red Guardian may have fought Steve after he went back in time at the end of Endgame. Remember when the Russo Bros said Old-man Steve was at Peggy’s funeral? That means he could’ve fought Alexi in 83-84.
  • Wait. Another theory: What if he did fight Rogers, just not the one frozen in ice. Remember when he went back in time to put back all the infinity stones? Then he stayed in that time getting back the life he lost. Maybe he did have a run in with Alexi. Just something I thought. Edit: Did not think this would get so popular. This was just something I thought up really quickly for people to think about and now there are so many theories being made.
  • Burnside's decent into evil makes perfect sense when you remember what the serum does. "Good becomes great, bad becomes worse." This guy was real bad before the serum.

William Burnsides’ origin sounds very similar to the Reverse Flash. Both had an obsession with a hero they idolized and while researching their hero found a means to gain the same powers as them. In one iteration, Eobard Thawne goes through surgery to look like Barry Allen in the same way Burnside does when trying to be Captain America. Both eventually fight their former hero as well. Very similar stories it seems.

The intro matpat’s wife should be happy she wasn’t chosen to die, if only he threw the coke and bought another one afterwards
  • @reahmelino7905
The scene between Diet Coke and Stef seems realistic, its the best mini scene I've seen so far on the three channels.
  • The best part of this movie was the “this would be the best way to die” during the avalanche prison break and “this would be the worst way to die” when her head was about to get cut open.

coming back to this video just 2 years later really does show just how much hope there was in the MCU. how times have changed... pre-covid MCU and and post-covid MCU aren't the same animal.

Well, the payoff to Alexei's stories about fighting Cap was the fight with Taskmaster, who was mirroring Cap's moves, so Alexei got to finally have his fight with Captain America -- at least by proxy. But it's still weird that he asks Nat if Cap ever talks about Red Guardian, because if he was just making up stories he'd KNOW he'd never actually met Cap and there's no way Cap would be aware of him.
  • Red Guardian: I wanna fight captain America Steve: Still frozen in ice William Burnside: "Fine I'll do it myself"
  • Um "You calling me a liar URSA" as in Soviet Hulk Ursa Major.... really Mat missed that. Also haven't read it but could Burnside be a reference to the Union general Robert Burnside?
  • I like Natashas back story a lot, it gives a real undertone to real life problems Natasha was sold and trafficked as a baby bc her family struck a deal that her mother didn’t agree with. Of course traffickers don’t (or at least I don’t think) want to turn young girls into super spy’s but it gives a good look into what happens when children are abandoned or kidnapped
