BUPROPION (WELLBUTRIN): Treatment for Depression/What are the Side Effects?

Published 2019-09-10
Bupropion or Wellbutrin is a medication that is used to treat Depression. Get a Doctors perspective and learn the symptoms of depression and how this medication can play a role in you treating it. You'll learn about both common and some of the more rare side effects that you should watch out for.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) is in the family of medications called Norepinephrine Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitors (NDRI). They influence the amount of Norepinephrine and Dopamine that is available to help with mood and other functions of the body.

With depression you tend to have symptoms like difficulty concentrating, remembering things or making decisions. Fatigue, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness. People experience sleeping problems, mood swings, a loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed, appetite changes, generalized pain, persistent sad or empty feelings and even suicidal thoughts or attempts.

If you are experiencing these symptoms you need to seek help from a professional. Go see your doctor and get an accurate diagnosis to figure out a good treatment plan for you. Remember depression and anxiety are real medical conditions and should be treated just as diabetes or high blood pressure need to be treated. You shouldn’t feel any different treating any one of these medical conditions.

We'll give a good overview in the video of the common side effects but its important to remember that most side effects if any are transient and can be minimized by working with your doctor.

I started 150 mg two months ago and my life has changed so much. I also did six months of psychotherapy, attended a support group, and have been taking magnesium and turmeric supplements daily, as well as omega-3 and a multivitamin. my anxiety and depression are SO much better. my ADHD symptoms are now manageable and I feel so much more at peace in my life. it’s been an amazing transformation. I’m 32 and I finally feel like a normal person.

This was magic for my inattentive adhd. It saved my life. I wish there was more versions. It gave me a life without fatigue.
  • Ive already felt positive effects within 4 days. I have energy. Im going to bed earlier. Waking earlier. ( i would sleep all night and day whenever given the chance before) im smoking less. I am much more energetic and doing the things i wanna do. Jumping right into projects. Instead of just wishing i had the drive to do them. My all around mood is already changing . Im excited for the future and cant wait to see how i feel with time when the med is in full effect. Im going to be an unstoppable force. When i was just a depressed person with no life before. Cant wait for this future for me. Never thought id be excited for life again like when i was a kid!

It is mindblowing how this is the best most informative doctors appointment I have ever had in my 40 years of life and he is not even my doctor! Thank you for actually taking the time to educate patients.

I've been dealing with depression for as long as I could remember , losing interest in everything , always tired , exteme smoking didnt help , fogginess when thinking .. my depression was getting so bad that I could just start crying in the middle of a conversation.... I felt like I was drowning.. I took the step and searched for help outside of my comfort zone and found a great therapist who told me I was dealing with severe depression and repressed thoughts and memories that still affect me on a subconcious level... she recommended this medication...now i've been on bupropion for about 2 weeks and my life has completely changed.. im generally in such a great mood , full of energy , dont care to smoke ...I can honestly say this medication has helped give me control of my life again and feel like a normal person ... I feel the urge to do things I love again and on the contrary I feel like my anxiety is almost non existent... if you're dealing with depression do yourself the favor and seek guidance , we all need help every now and then.

I was diagnosed with generalizes anxiety and depression. Taking Wellbutrin was a game changer for me.I am able to concentrate better and I am not nervous when I interview my clients. I no longer have nervousness when my client that I am interviewing brings a friend or family member with them into my office. I to my knowledge I don't have any symptoms from taking Wellbutrin.

I have experienced the exact opposite of what this video states about Welbutrin, it has been a godsend for my anxiety disorder, PTSD, and heavy depression. It has lifted my mood and stopped the anxiety after years of searching and work with my doctor.

I have tried two SSRI, and one SNRI with not so good results. Just lack of energy and always sleepy and not being able to have any focus. Now im on my 8th day with this medication (in combination with SNRI), and wow... First like the other medications the start was aweful but the last 3 days has been just amazing, im alert, happy and full of energi i hope this continues 😃😃😃

Why can't I find a good doctor such as yourself? You are eloquent in your description and presentation. Thank you.
  • @brandon9828
Such a good point around 9:50. Please don't be afraid to take the first due to side effects. Side effects can be noticed and you can seek help these issues will be temporary. The potential help you can receive though is completely life changing, all of these kind of antidepressant 4-8 week start time are a bit challenging but when you find the right fit, it's cruel to make yourself live without. It can all be so much better. <3

I've been on this medication for almost 8 months now and it's made a world of a difference in my mood. This is the 4th antidepressant that I've tried and I finally feel like my normal self after years. I've also been able to stop smoking, stop binge eating, and (just recently) ditch my ADHD meds thanks a lot to this medication. (However, I realize that every medication works differently for every individual). Thanks so much for the video, much of this my doctor didn't tell me.
  • @jemafleming
It seems to work for weight loss for me! I never really considered myself to be depressed, rather I feel very content, but I do binge on food lately for unknown reasons. I wish my previous doctors had recommended this before!
  • Thank you Doctor Richardson! I just started this medication a few days ago. My doctor suggested it. After listening to you I have that much more confidence it will work for me.
  • @KristinDancer95
So informative and encouraging! I am on day 4 of Wellbutrin and hoping/ praying for the best
  • My left ear is very grateful for this information. Thanks and I cant wait for my Doctor's visit after this goddamn pandemic.
