Video Game Prices Make NO Sense

Most major games are released at $60 or $70, but does that actually make any sense? Should Mario Party cost the same amount of money as God of War? How fast should a games price drop after release? Let's talk about video game pricing.

  • Agreed. Very few games these days are worth the $70 price tag. Just wait for them to go on sale. Great video!

GTA 6 leak rumors its release day price might be $150 Gamers: This is fine

"Length doesn't always matter" what i needed to hear today
  • @Rainbowhawk1993
$70 Price tags don’t bother me because I buy my games 2-3 years later at $15 or less.

Important correction to @3:04 "Ubisoft has since clarified that it will only delete inactive accounts that do not have any game purchases tied to them"

I paid 5 dollars for a brand new cyberpunk 2077 game on a bestbuy deal. I overpaid.

short, but on point With that said, I rarely ever buy new games, unless of course I respect the dev and their craft. Sometimes, I'll buy the game cheap, but then want to give more money after playing it. Personally, this is the system I'd like to see, where there is a flat price, but if you got it on sale and liked it, you can give more money later on. I like it when I see those give a dev $5 dlc packs on Steam.

Shopping in a gamestore as participating in an historical event 😂 Nice one!

In regards to this I especially hate the whole argument of "Well, because of inflation, games are cheaper than ever!" because I wanna roll up a "wages vs productivity over time" chart and smack them upside the head with it for being so arrogant. I also want to do the same thing with all the consumer-centric features steam has vs all the features epic games store has whenever people complain about valve's 30% cut considering that, strangely, we don't seem to be considered an important part of the conversation regarding that whole topic even though instead of focusing so hard on the 18% or so revenue difference they should be focusing on the 70% of revenue they're getting instead of the 0% they get when they try to strong arm us into using a service we hate.

While I agree that game pricing is not very indicative of game value, the age of a game often doesn’t correlate to value. Most of the time I’ve spent playing games this year has been on games originally released in previous generations, with the only compromise being admittedly poorer graphics. And unless your game is as beautiful as a Xenoblade or Persona 5 or something, a game’s value is its gameplay and/or story 100%. In fact, oftentimes I feel as though companies make older games more difficult to access precisely because the industry is stagnant, having ridden a period of great but unsustainable technological improvements where more powerful hardware alone was enough to make bigger and better games. But now we’ve hit the diminishing returns and new corporate products don’t often hold up that much better than previous ones (if they are better at all. Honestly I think for the most part Nintendo has the right of it. I paid full $50 price for Xenoblade X on the E-shop just this March, and that was a better and bigger experience than several releases this year I bought on launch for a higher price. Games should go down in price if the new ones are better than the old and they can’t compete at the same price they released at. But if you make a good quality game, it takes a LONG time for it to drop off like that.

Add to that, talk of Apple charging $60 for a Rezzy 4 remake on their damn phone. 😒
  • @RemiliaVampire
I like physical copies of games that are able to play offline. This way I actually own what I pay for lol.

You just gave a voice to my long-time frustration.. Perhaps I can give U the reason why companies price the way they do.. I would blame each and every person who either buys the games on day one or pre-orders them.. If you are there to buy a game day one of "full price" when U have other games in hand to play, then why would gaming company give a damn for a nominal and justified prices..
  • @natto4now
Every time i come across some meat rider trying to white knight for big gaming companies and justify the pricing i just remember Acengers A day was 60 bucks in release + micro transactions + dlc what over 100 bucks? 3 years later the game is 3 bucks on steam all micro transactions are free and the game is soon gonna get pulled Imagine what the poor fool who paid 100 bucks on release must be feeling
