At Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center in 1998, Elton and the band gave the title track from his 1975 album (the first to ever enter the Billboard Top 200 at #1) a slightly slower rendition than usual in concert, which only adds weight to the autobiographical song’s reflective lyrics. That is John Jorgenson (Desert Rose Band, Hellecasters), who toured with Elton from 1995-1998, providing mandolin accompaniment and Music Director Davey Johnstone, still leading the band on Elton’s Farewell tour, switching back and forth between acoustic and electric guitars.

I skipped school to buy the album the day it came out. I took it straight out of the box at the music store. I remember that day very well.
  • Was 12 when this came out, mom gave it to me as a gift, right after it was released... I've got the cd now, it's in the car stereo right now!! A seriously GREAT album of songs!

Perhaps one of the best songs he and Bernie ever wrote. This one NEEDS to be played on the last leg of the Farewell tour...no exceptions!
