  • "Christopher, my son, did I ever tell you the full story of Shelob? You know, the monstrous spider - descended from the vile Ungoliant! - which I used to read aloud of in our Oxford meetings of the Inklings? Well what I didn't mention back then was Shelob could also transform into a totally hot babe: all pale and dark and wan like Rebecca in Ivanhoe or what will later come to be known as the goth subculture. In fact she looked very much like the pornographic actress Stoya who will be born 13 years after I die. Christopher, I will be entrusting you with my estate. If there is ever a videogame adaptation of my work you must make sure they get this Shelob right - make sure she is what the Anglo-Saxons would have called a hæða ecge, a real sexy bitch." -J. R. R. Tolkien

20 percent of comments: this is against lore! 80 percent of comments: she can spin me a web any day😂
  • @Astrithor
I'm an arachnophobe and this confuses me deeply.

its just so sad that Talion was ready to give up the ring, which would essentially have meant death for him, just to save Celebrimbor from Shelob...but Celebrimbor abandoned him so easily, leaving him for death, when he realized that they did not see eye to eye....feelsbadman :/

Pro-Tip for all you girls out there: Don't trust guys nicknamed "The Great Deciever"
  • @Venneroth
tfw you realize you voluntarily dated a guy called "The Deceiver," "The Cruel" and "the Abhorred" and thought it would end well.

Somehow, I was surprised that despite all of Celebrimbor´s warning, Shelob didn´t betray Talion. In fact, she was pretty honest and gave him good advice, including the consequences of playing with rings of power.
  • Talion: "I've come to see more." Shelob: "I know." Me: "Don't do it, Talion. She is LITERALLY a man-eater!"
  • @Alsemenor
I almost have a feeling that the game creators mistook Shelob for her mom - Ungoliath. She was probably powerful enough to transform into a human.
  • @rjhemedes
I like how the writers had Sauron betray Shelob, like her mother Ungoliant was betrayed by Sauron's mentor Melkor/Morgoth in The Silmarillion. That was a nice history repeating itself from mother to daughter.

"In other news, a devastating earthquake rocked Oxford earlier today. Scientists are baffled as to the earthquake's origins, but some experts have suggested it may have been caused by the the late JRR Tolkein furiously spinning in his grave."
  • @TheBeastr
Lesson learned: NEVER TRUST ELVES, only put your faith in the spider
  • @mspionage1743
Shelob was actually extremely honorable in this story.
  • @Jack-yn6ye
Really nice irony how Shelob only deals in truth given the expression, "web of lies."
  • Reminder: Shelob is not a shapeshifter. Her “human form” is only seen in the wraith-world.
