Episode 157 - So many polygons, so little time. Why not make room for some 2D action which didn't get as much love in the 32-bit era as it should have. Here's some of those games.

Being exceptionally good at 2D didn't do much for the Saturn's international sales back in the day, but it certainly helped it age much better than its contemporaries.
  • Holy cow. I think Joe has the same weird mental hang-up that I do wth optical media. When he put Silhouette Mirage in the Saturn, he adjusted the disc so the label would be straight before starting the game. I have always done that. I was even mocked and ridiculed once as a child, by all the townspeople.

Dave and Joe never disappoint with their late Saturday night Game Sack episode. Happy Holidays guys!
  • LOL! I died when I heard the monster truck madness voice "HUUUUUGE BATTLE SHIP!"

I really don't know what the fascination was with 3D back in the mid-90's. I got sucked into it myself, but I look back at it now and think, there was SO much great 2D stuff for the Playstation and Saturn, that got overshadowed by a lot of the 3D, which looks like crap now, for the most part. Hindsight is 20/20, I suppose. At the risk of sounding like a Sega fanboy, 3D didn't start to really look good until the Dreamcast came along.

Frost Man always sounds like that one cartoon character that says, "which way did he go, George, which way did he go?"
  • There is no other game that has such a special place in my heart as heart of darkness.

Huh, i never knew Blood Omen was a topdown Diablo-esque thing. The jump to the third person Soul Reaver must've come as a bit of a shock to fans of the first one.

I really enjoy Astal on the Saturn. Beautiful game!
  • Something about Saturday morning and Game Sack videos... even if they're 6 years old at this point. If I haven't seen it, it's new to me!

Well since you guys opened the floodgates I recommend Mischief Makers. Its a 2D sidescroller for the Nintendo 64 made by Treasure in which you throw and shake your enemies around.

this channel should definitely deserve way more subscribers and views...when I watch their videos I can really feel the passion and the effort they dedicate to gaming.

It's Game Sack time! I went through the week wishing to see a new Game Sack's episode and OMG it felt like an entire month. It was worth the wait because this episode was filled with Mega Power!!!

The Legacy of Kani has got to be one of the best stories I have ever been able to witness.
  • GBA was 32 bit and had LOTS of 2D games :P As for console games, Square had quite a few fully 2D games on the PS1, like Legend of Mana. Then, of course, there's the single greatest game ever made for the Saturn, Guardian Heroes!
