The rooster was a nickname during Vietnam for the M60 machine gunner, and was always a target for the NVA to kill or Snuff the rooster. My father was a gunner in Vietnam and I was a machine gunner just like him during both Iraq wars. Thank you for this cover.

This song reminds me of my Daddy. He was in Vietnam and I am sure proud of him for his service. I miss him so much. I loved that we had a çlose relationship and after years of torment of his own memories he was able to start telling me of his time there. His buddies attended his funeral from across the United States. My sister and I wanted a military funeral because he deserved it. The war took a lot from him and caused a lot to him. It was moving to watch his buddies stand in front of his casket and salute my Daddy one last time. Then take the little flags they had in their hands and lay them in his casket. Oh how my heart was so overjoyed and never more proud of him. Sorry so long I just had to share. Prayers and love to everyone 🙏 ♥.
