Artisan Market Baskets mix scrap yarns of any weights from fingering to bulky, and mix any fiber types! Make a beautiful tweed basket in a small or large size.

Artisan Market Baskets are excellent sellers at craft fairs! Recommended pricing: at least $40 for small baskets and at least $80-100 for large baskets. Popular with other crafters and great for storing yarn. Makes a lovely housewarming present when you put a house plant inside!

Artisan Market Baskets are crocheted with 7 strands of yarn held together as one. 8 mm hook. All single crochet stitches in US terms.

Skill level: advanced beginner because it can be tricky to crochet with 7 strands at once. The single crochet stitch itself is simple.

Crochet pattern: Artisan Market Baskets from my book Crochet Southwest Spirit: Over 20 Bohemian Patterns Inspired By The American Southwest. Available on Amazon here: amzn.to/3Wodr0J or check it out at your local public library!

Small basket requires about 1 1/4 pounds or 550 grams of mixed yarn scraps, fingering to bulky/chunky weight. That is about half of a typical plastic grocery bag full.

Large basket requires about 2 1/4 pounds or 1 kg of mixed yarn scraps. That is a full plastic grocery bag of yarn scraps.

You can tie knots to join yarns, leaving 3-inch tails to crochet over as shown in the tutorial.

Long handles required about 60 inches (152 cm) of 3/4 inch wide (2 cm wide) faux leather strap per basket. Short handles require about 18-20 inches (46-51 cm) strap. Here is the faux leather strap I used on Amazon: a.co/d/j8n6KHF.

I use a Susan Bates brand 8 mm aluminum crochet hook with a bamboo handle. You can buy it for $5.49 USD at Joann.com. www.joann.com/susan-bates-bamboo-handle-crochet-ho…

I had a stroke 5 years ago and have struggled to regain my crochet ability. I've always been a craft crazed maniac and I just tried this method of the bulky 7 strand and larger hook just to see and I can do it!!! I'm so excited and thankful!!! I'm ordering your book today and will be getting one going this week!! I must have been guided to your channel...Thank you so much.
  • I TAUGHT MYSELF TO CROCHET WHEN I WAS 72YRS.OLD WITH HELP FROM UTUBE TUTORIALS. BAG O DAY, JAYDA, LOTS OF ENLAND TEACHERS. I CAN'T READ A PATTERN

Very much appreciate your beautiful and useful baskets. Thanks dearly for sharing how to crochet them and add straps.

One of the super things I find about this project is that I can use different weight yarns, some thin, some thick, all together. This is perfect for me as I am learning to spin cotton thread and right now my yarn is a little inconsistant, to say the least. Slubby, thick in parts, thin in others, etc. I can use this imperfect yarn for this basket and nobody would know! Thank you for this tutorial. It was awesome!
  • Thank you for sharing your design for this darling basket. Your work is beautiful, and you must have very strong hands! 💖
  • I am do excited to try this. My crochet skills are the beginner level. I am pretty sure I can do this 🙏
  • Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tutorial. I used to crochet when I was younger and would love to do it again. You have inspired me with your beautiful baskets! They are truly lovely! And so are you! 🫠Sending much aloha across the miles!🌈🌺🙋‍♀️

Wow!! Thank you so much for showing us how to make this basket!!! Your instructions are clear and I think I can do it. If I start now I may be able to make them for my whole family for Christmas. Really, that was very generous for you to take 2 hours out of your life and share that for free. Thank you for your kindness!!!!
  • Susan, thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your gorgeous craft with all of us who love crocheting.

Hi Susan🫶🏼 you totally crack me up when you say something (like sew in the ends one at a time so they don’t show) then you subtly giggle. It’s like in your head you are saying “yeah right Susan, as if they won’t show “. I laugh at loud at your wit! This is a fantastic tutorial and I thank you for your time sharing. 🙏🏼 I definitely want to buy your beautiful book 📕 Great job❣️❣️ LeeAnne Ray

Thank you so much for your tutorial and especially for not using any music! I have a hard time understanding voice instructions whenever there is background "noise" at the same time. I have crocheted for more than 60 years, but I learned something from your video that will help me to improve my work!!!! I love it when that happens!🤣

Looks awesome! I’ve done 3 at once. 7 strands seems ambitious. I will give it a go! Thanks for the ideas! ❤🎉 I bet without handles and a bit shorter they would make great pet beds!

What a brilliant idea to use the yarns that we bought for other projects that did not come to light. Or the hook! I love the idea of using different weights of yarn. So brilliant! Appreciate the mention of the price. Currently, not there at being a vendor but as a Nana my beautiful granddaughter keeps me busy with ideas that at times keep me away from the sewing of quilts. Thank you for sharing such talent that is so inspirational and connects with life.
  • Thank you dear lady for keeping us informed. Yes, we must hold compassion for the children and continue to pray for them. 🙏💫
  • Thank you so much for this great tutorial! I have been a knitter for 40 years, but have only been able to master single crochet. This video has given me the confidence to delve deeper into crochet! I started my large basket this morning and just finished it! It's fabulous 🎉❤
  • I've got a trunk full of yarn. This will be a perfect use for that stash that is just hiding!! Lol
  • @BettsiLedesma
I started this today- I love the hint about filling a plastic bag to know how much yarn it takes. I also think it might be impossible to make an ugly basket purse. The yarn mixture makes it so interesting! Thank you for sharing this! I also ordered your book- the projects look amazing- can't wait to start.
  • These are so beautiful, I need to make one. Thanks for posting this video with the instructions, you’re very generous. ❤
