Severn Valley Railway - Autumn Steam Gala (2023)

Published 2023-09-18
Lineside action from the renowned Severn Valley Railway autumn steam gala featuring four guest engines and the ever reliable stable of homefleet engines. LNER B1 class Mayflower was billed as the star guest which was backed up by the American S160 2253 'Omaha' which would definitely liven up the proceedings of the four day mega steam gathering. The third guest was coutesy of the Mid Hants Railway and it was in the form of the LMS 2MT Ivatt '41312' which would be a firm favourite among many. The final guest was the Bagnall industrial loco 401 'Vulcan' we would be seen on plenty of local services. The homefleet were all in attendance and performed superbly across the event, most notably Great Western Pannier Tank 7714 with an ear deafening climb of Eardington Bank on the final day of the gala, this is showcased at start of the video with a soundtrack to remember !

The weather was pretty poor across the four days with Friday being the brighter day. The timetable was ambitious and plentiful, though heavy delays were present across all three days. The S160 was pulled on the Sunday due to injector issues, though we did manage to capture it going well up Eardington on the Friday evening. For the video we mostly capture the action on the northern end of the line, usually I would try to showcase more locations but with the severe late running and poor weather I decided to keep things simple.

I hope you the video.

Lovely photography, no sound effects, the real thing. Almost like being there. Thanks. Rmb

I was also at Eardington on Friday evening for Mayflower and Omaha. I don't know about you but really battled with trying to get to locations and get locos which weren't tender first, I had a whole run of bad luck and learnt that i really need to study the timetable and which direction they are working at different spots. Still I think i've covered 90% of the publicly accessible locations on the line now and will hopefully visit the rest at the diesel gala.

You've got to love the panniers, 7 up, and bowling along at the full 25mph, no sweat!

Many thanks for the video, I was working as a volunteer at Bridgnorth station so only got to see the arrivals and departures from there.
