The most famous penalty shoot-out in World Cup history?
  • RIP Andreas! 😢 Serie A player of the year, '89 as a defender and a non-Italian one at that (!) World Champion '90. Left foot, right foot, great shot, one of the GOATs. Humble and down to Earth.

I was 19 when this game was played, totally heartbreaking at the time. For the rest of that summer this game replayed in my mind, over & over. Football was never the same after this tournament, the PL started two years later and big money moved in. Italia 90 marked the end of old football as well as an era. Don’t get me wrong, the game tactically and skill wise is light years ahead now, I’m talking more about the very soul of football, that had died by the late 90s.

Andreas Brehme - first and maybe only player ever who scores in an PSO in World Cup finals with his left foot (1986 vs Mexico) as well as with his right foot (1990 vs England)
  • It's amazing how very little things can change everything. Just rewatched highlights from the 1996 semi. Darren Anderton hits the goal post in extra time for a potential golden goal! There would be no Gareth Southgate miss, no Möller taunting the crowd and no Bierhoff golden goal in the final.
  • Brings a tear to my eye watching this footage , and that’s just Stuart Pearce’s skin tight knacker tight shorts ⚽️ what a game of football an absolute classic

  • Thank you Fifatv! I want to watch the Extended highlights of other games between Germany 🇩🇪 and England 🇬🇧, but the World Cups of 1966 🇬🇧, 1982 🇪🇸 and 2010 🇿🇦
  • I was 12. In my humble opinion, that was the best English team I have seen in my life. Gascoigne, Waddle, Lineker and David Platt, they were worthy of winning that world cup,

Looked back on Mexico 86 and Italia 90. The challenges that occurred in those days if they happened now teams would be down to 5 asides. Some crazy challenges. Why for me guys like Maradonna and Gazza are so special. To be a forward player in those years and affect a game after being assaulted took some doing.

This was the first championship I watched, and I remember this game standing out as particularly exciting. But I totally did not remember that it didn't end with a shot being held, but missing the goal. Amazing!
