Can a Mains Ground close a Battery Circuit?

Just wanted to test idea that Mains Ground/Earth is conductive. I don't know if place where I live has a shared ground, but I took grounds from the two remotest parts of the house.

If you have a better explanation than myself, please comment bellow.

    I have a wired houses before. Most of them are going to be wired that way. I always put my oscilloscope through an isolation transformer so that there is no ground reference.
