Why Bother Replaying Video Games?

Published 2023-04-30
So I have been away for about a month, and replaying lots of games, and while I am now making progress on my backlog finally, I am glad to have had some genuine fun replaying a lot of these games.

But does replaying these games really matter? Why should you? All of that and more will be discussed in today's video.

Achievement hunting has helped me get much more playtime out of games that I really enjoyed, I remember in borderlands 2 seeing a few things I missed purely because I was going for one of the weird achievements! I think this vid really nailed why it is fun and comforting to replay games and makes me look forward to replaying Celeste soon even more! :)

Even as a kid I've held replay value to such a high standard. The games I played were fun, they were enjoyable, and even when I got a stuck at a certain part I would simply boot up a new save and replay the game to where I got stuck. Especially when your younger and don't have the means of getting new games, it inherently drives you to replay the ones you do have more. There really all you have at the end of the day, and again it all ties back to the experiences themselves being fun and engaging enough to spark that urge. Great vid dude! Per usual!

I hope you blow up. I've been watching your videos here and there pertaining to my interests and they meet my metric for walking my dog. Which is a pretty high bar. I may not watch every video due to not being interested or otherwise not wanting spoilers for games you talk about, it seems like all of them are genuinely good by my standards. I hope you keep making videos until you reach a large audience and onward. Especially when they are about general gaming concepts. Those videos are my bread and butter and how I found this channel.

Excellent video. Replaying video games (or just revisiting any media like TV shows, movies, albums, etc.) does something to the brain. Replaying something you are already familiar with helps you feel safe, happy, and a feeling of comfort because you already know everything thats about to happen. Its psychology baby!

Super mario galaxy for me. I replay this game at least 1 time a year to admire it's beauty and the fun times it gave me as a kid. Nowadays i breeze through the entire game in an evening but I still ove every second of it

Gaming back in the day was way harder. It was more about improving skills and raising your score. So you'd play over and over to brag to your friends about your hi score. As time went on, it became more about story and spectacle. Today the majority of gamers want a story and to just have fun, which is fine. But the prospect of getting a high score is no longer a factor, and most modern gamers dont replay games

I have no idea why but this video felt so nostalgic and comforting at the same time despite only been watching your videos for like a month or two. This video was amazing I can't wait to see what your opinions are in future videos

Nowdays I tend to view a game's worth based on its replay value. Can I go back and play this game and find new ways to play it? Or is it a one-set-done deal? This video made me realize that our childhood was on the former than the latter where we would always go back and play the same game over again because they were fun.
  • Gamestop Credit for real isn’t worth it 99% of the time. Regrettably sold some copies that to this day i want to play again off from memory. Skate 3 being one of the victims. And omg the xbox power supply note lmao can’t be helped since at some point I’m gonna be in the Catherine rabbit hole lol. Really great video man!
  • @jeyolikemayo
Always think of games as "one-and-done" experiences. Still, would be cool to get into a mindset that doesn't involve finishing a game then going to yt to watch others gush about how good the game is. Cheers to your thoughts.
  • @GoRyder
This is me and Batman Arkham Asylum. The game is so satisfying to play and is in the sweet spot of not too long/big and 100% completion isnt controller snapping frustrating/tedious.
  • I've personally never been able to replay games no matter how much I enjoyed them, glad others can get something out of it though.
