There's plenty of vids on this platform of people using both the RC500 and RC520 for gravel - they use the same fork and frame, and known for their robustness. The hoops on either will convert to tubeless, and the space allows loads of scope for upping tyre width. If there's any left, you can get a 500 for £650, which leaves quite a lot of budget left for tyres, rim tape, sealant, some flared bars, and other bits and pieces. They're both a great option.
  • I bought the lower spec road RC520 and have upgraded/gravelised it. It shares the same frame and fork as the official gravel version, so there's hasn't been any issues with 40mm tyres, 105 groupset, flared bars, wheel upgrades. (At the time of purchase it was a much better colour!) Anyway, what a great bike! Very capable and the match of my friends £1000 gravel bike. It fits alongside my 29er MTB, so I have all my types of riding covered.

And please remember for £1000 (so not under £1k!) you can get a Boardman ADV 8.9 with hydraulic discs, 2 x 10 drive, 40mm tyres. Had one for 18months and it absolutely flies!

Interesting - I've been looking at the Camino, but and am now I'm looking at a Sonder Dial to potentially replace my now 6 yr old Genesis CDF. I think I'm looking for a replacement for my gravel bike with added XC.

i agree about Triban, but i got mine Marin Nicasio Plus
  • Gee, the "self-sown on the hills" comment for the Four Corners left me feeling a bit uneasy. I live in a hilly area and I'm planning on buying this one as I felt she would make a nice tourer. Do I go ahead or go elsewhere?🙄
  • Voodoo Nakisi with sora for £550 not even mentioned,I’ve been on a lot of bikes and for the money it’s a great gravel bike

What do you guys think of the new Calibre Dark Peak ? On paper it seams better than any in this list, I’m looking for a mainly road bike that can short cut a woodland path and then canal path, my full suss mtb is a bit much on my route of mainly roads 😕

Wow. Stuff gets old very quickly. The Camino is still under £1k at least. I think we now need a post-Brexit, apocalypse version of this vid.

Can't help thinking these gravel bikes are a waste of time. A 26 inch wheel hard tail mountain bike does it all , and better.
