The Humvee Road Trip Gets Even Worse!

Published 2024-05-17
We bought some heavily used Humvees at an auction in Southern California and are attempting to drive them home to Northern Idaho. So far we have spent three days fixing our turbo diesel two door in a parking lot and right we we got back on the road the worst happened. Watch the ‪@FabRats‬ recover our problematic humvee here    • We Never Expected To Pick Up Somethin...

  • It was so incredible to be able to do a trip like this! Thank you for for all of the support to make this possible and to the Premium member club for making the elevated soundtrack possible! Check out the exclusive club here grindhardplumbingco.com/

I wanted to make this series as close to a real movie as I possibly could. Between Steven’s incredible shots, Will’s antics and Ethan’s willpower I think we got pretty dang close! Maybe we are ready to make a movie now?
  • @JWbrasser
This is the single most roadkill shit to ever NOT include Freiburger and/or Finnegan
  • @toejamr1
I almost forgot how great it is to have REAL music in YouTube videos.
  • @PewterQ
I think the Humvee liked towing the broken one. The extra load made it feel like it was covered in armor and full of crayon crumbs again.
  • @jasehill3090
I mean this with all love and respect, you guys are great, you have to have a driver in the rear Humvee. I’m a veteran, we did that all the time, that tow rig is not meant to tow without a chauffeur in back for brakes, steering and signals. I wish someone would’ve told you…
  • @bardenegri21
Dude this actual music makes the video so much better than the royalty free stuff or random background music everyone uses. Money well spent ❤
  • @f1y7rap
@6:00 My guy, when you flat tow, you gotta have a caretaker in the towed hummer. Unless you're towing with a Duce or better, they can't handle the breaking by themselves. Also, the steeringwheel sometimes decides to go for the ditch, pulling the towing truck with it.

In the Army I was a mechanic and had recovery school. The actual tow bar is solid steel and if I remember right mounts in the holes where the clevis bolts on. Those things are horrible for maintenance. Every hundred miles of a road march we'd lose 2-3 vehicles. You guys need to wait for the glow plug light to go off right above the switch. It's pretty easy to mushroom the glow plugs in that engine.
  • @rozap_8356
"it says don't exceed 25mph, but that's probably just like, for safety"
  • @fursphere2
As a former USMC mechanic who worked on those things extensively... driving them on pavement for extended periods of time will cause an early death of the geared hubs, the differentials, and the all-time-4wd transfer cases. They're really meant to be off-road always. (which is dumb)
  • @mightytank501
Seeing no one in that back truck actually scared me. I mean nothing against you guys at all but at least in my experience with pulling and towing vehicles you should alway have someone in the "dead" vehicle to control it if needed. But even with all the misfortune with the other Humvee you guys still made another awesome video, keep up the great work.
  • at the 27 minute mark, when you blokes are sprawled out in front of the storage unit, and will has that look of depression . you look like a band that got dropped off at the wrong venue , no crowd , no instruments, no ride .LOL. But I love the way that the show must go on.
  • I think you guys know you are lucky no one got hurt. That tow bar was not meant to do what you were trying to do with it, and you were towing a vehicle that should never be towed like that. I'm just glad it ended the way it did and you guys didn't get hurt, or hurt anyone else.
  • @rbdesignsnh
i am really glad the tow bar failure did not result in anything worse. that really could have been a bad time. hindsight is always 20/20 when it comes to looking at failures but i think you guys all got caught up in the heat of the moment and the lack of sleep & all the other failures probably overshadowed just how sketchy it was to run that towbar as you did. excellent video. glad everyone made it out unscathed.
  • @its_me_JZ
6:32 Will has the look of "please don't hurt my humvee" 😂
  • @donovangregg5
Man, I was really hoping the group would've finished this together. But I get it, some folks aren't built that way! I appreciate all ya'll keep it up!
  • I'm with Ethan on this. You all set on an adventure to get these things home. I've watched road kill do a complete engine swap in a parking lot, I think you guys know enough people to make this happen.
  • @TheMsterblaster
Dudes, I was a grunt that drove these things over in the sandbox. The Tow bars we had were 1/4" steel, sleeved with 1/4" steel. As in the steel was 1/4" formed into a 2" tube. Aluminum was lucky to make it as far as you did. Also, I love ya'll talking about how it feels years ago, after spending time in the HMMWV. Think about dudes counting down days to end of active service. These are truly time machines, only they slow time... Serious props gents.
