*EMOTIONAL* 1st Time in the UK – My Best Friend’s First Impressions of England #anglophile

Publicado 2024-07-26
My BFF Tracy came to visit the UK for the first time, and we showed her around the Cotswolds, other parts of Gloucestershire, and London. Right before leaving for the airport to fly back to Texas, we sat down in Hyde Park in front of the Albert Memorial to discuss her first impressions of England and things she found surprising, things she loved about England, and anything she disliked about being here! We also talk about her favourite foods and her experience seeing musicals in the West End. Let me know your thoughts on her first impressions.
Please SUBSCRIBE for more British fun and adventures. Cheers! XX Dara

So much fun hearing Tracy's reactions and opinions about her Trip of a Lifetime to Britain!! Thanks to both of you ladies for doing this video. It was so genuine and up-front -- you could really feel Tracy's enthusiasm. I hope that she and her husband can return for another visit and get to some more of the things they would like to do!! 🥰👍✈

Tracey was touched by the holy spirit in the cathedral. God stirs us in ways that are hard to describe.
  • So glad you had a lovely time in the UK. Next time you come to the cathedral in Gloucester come up to the top of the tower (we do tours in the Summer Season) - the view is worth it.

Dara, this is beautiful. Your consummate editing skills just get better and better. I know you both love Gloucester's Cathedral; but - in the words of Alec Clifton-Taylor - it truly is "the most disparate of the English cathedrals". I would wish to add, with the possible exception of St Alban's Cathedral in Hertfordshire. The nave of Gloucester is wonderful: but the Early English vault looks rather 'jammed down' onto its Norman pillars: whilst the Choir is a burst of Perpendicular Gothic; which was not continued into the nave. Architecturally, the old building is a mess: but an impressive mess, nonetheless. England was so fortunate to be conquered by the Normans: it meant that we got the cathedrals! Oddly, when people go to Sicily. the cathedrals they most want to see are CEFALU and MONREALE; both build by Roger II......a Norman! It's a small world.

Weather in Cornwall is cloudy but it’s not cold, more like sort of cool. Even a hint of the sun’s rays piercing through the clouds, you can feel the heat.

This has been an awful year for hayfever, presumably due to the weather. I had never had it in my life until this year! Cheltenham is also in something of a bowl, where the air in the summer can get a bit tasty.

I adore the Weston upon Trent photograph with your sons, I never knew that story and thought it was awesome!! ❤

Definitely Cow Parsley. That's the name of the plant. 😁😁 (Has problems listening to the commentary at the same time as reading the chat).
  • Really the Albert Memorial beautiful? This Londoner thinks it is plug ugly and that’s an understatement. The Victorians were responsible for good and bad architecture and that thing behind you is a prime example of their over the top sentimental grossness. Got that off my chest. Pleased that your friend enjoyed her stay😊
