I remember when you guys pulled up to the property. And there was no road and the first night the road was cut. You were driving around on the road and just tickled pink. I don't think some people realize how far you have come. I'm proud of you. I wish when I was younger I would have had. The courage and the vision to try and create my own life instead of live the life I was dealt.

A neighbor grows his strawberries in a piece of 6 inch pvc with slots cut into it, about a 4x4 hole and has it mounted on the fence. He gets a lot of strawberries from it.

try some 7dust on your plants, we use it here on the Central Coast of N.C. to control the bugs in the garden

Here for the entire homesteading family journey! So proud of all the new skills you have both learned & execute daily! Roots & Refuge added a shade cloth & showed how & I bet that would help the garden in the future Such an amazing Beautiful Family🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s

Do you fertilize your garden? That may be why your peppers are small. We fertilize our garden every other week.
  • @mzbubbeline
you could use the slopes between the terrasses to grow your strawberries :) some black fabric, burned out holes for planting in, and some woodchips to hold the slopes "in line" when it rains, and you will have pleassure for years to come ;)
  • Blue spray - animal wound spray - Chickens will peck a bloody red area on other chickens. Use the blue spray so the others don't peck at wounded chickens.

I think the goat barn and the fencing looks fantastic. The goat pin, barn feed shed, chicken pin and chicken coop all look pland out awesome. Great plans work out great

Summer heat is hard on the lettuce, install a garden shade over the area of the lettuce and this will extend your growing season. However a greenhouse will extend the season even further into the year. It's nice to see how well the homestead is progressing

Could the rabbits be siblings and that is why she kills them? The 1 you got from CRC could be related to your males also? Did Tim have them separated from which belonged to his females? Strawberries will need a larger area!! 1st year your supposed to pick off the berries, every year they will get bigger. Also you planted them to close together. Hang gutters along your fence and put the Strawberries in them. A good foot apart, but youll habe to pick off the new berries if you transplant. We had 8x8 areas in tiers for our Strawberries. Gardening is a learning every year.

About your strawberries, early next spring try giving them a good fertilizing, I have always been told the first year that you plant strawberries that you are to pick off the blooms so that they put more energy into getting established
  • Thanks for the update! With this lifestyle, you’ve got to do what you can, when you can. Much love. ❤️

I would build a fence with a gate in the barn. That you way have access to both sides. And when you want them to mate, you can just leave the gate open.
  • @bonniemoore4056
Gary, you made that shed into a perfect barn and the goats have a really large area to move around and play.😮😊👍

It's HOT EVERY YEAR IN THE SOUTH! Only the DEGREE OF HOW HOT varies at times along with the HUMIDITY which has been 100% down here in Alabama for the past 5 days. 100% humidity DOES NOT mean its raining, only means the clouds are at 100% capacity and can't hold any more moisture or else it will drop the excess as sprinkles, etc.

I'm here for the journey!! 🙌🙌🙌 Thank you for sharing it!
  • Y'all don't have to buy solar panels. When y'all can just buy on for a electric fence at tractor supply. All it is just a box that has the solar panel built-in and the positive and negative terminal for your fence wiring. And believe me it will give ya a electrical shock. And it would be cheaper then what Gary was thinking and planning on doing. The electric fence chargers are only about 30 to 50 bucks for the electric fence.

You can use the diatomaceous earth for the chickens. Just hang onto the neem oil for other uses.

I love how you explain things so we can actually see what you are doing.
