By far the most atmospheric game ever created... And a lot of that atmosphere is owed to the soundtrack. This game will always have a special place in my heart.

"The sanctity of this place has been fouled.." I was blessed enough to be able to play this as a child and I remember the relief I felt coming back to town for a brief respite and the dread of knowing you had to go back in. Godly Plate of the Whale..Archangel's Staff of Apocalypse..Arkaine's Valor..Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac..King's Sword of Haste..So many absolutely wonderful memories.

Matt Uelmen created a master piece here. Simply a perfect match for such a game
  • An outstanding composition for a groundbreaking game. The stars aligned at Blizzard North in those days...

Brings me right back to late nights as a 12 year old playing this on PS1 in the basement with all the lights out
  • This just transported me back to the 90s, playing the Diablo demo on our family PC. I fell in love with this soundtrack then, it was so atmospheric.

This track hits me right in the 90's. What a great game.
  • It's crazy. It seems so small when you look at it all from above. I remember it feeling so, so much bigger as kid. It's like going back to Whiterun or Orgrimmar after you grow up.

Wow... listening to this is like being 15, single and with hair again... such good memories

"Thank goodness you've returned! Much has changed since you lived here, my friend. All was peaceful until the Dark Riders came and destroyed our village. Many were cut down where they stood, and those who took up arms were slain or dragged away to become slaves or worse. The church at the edge of town has been desecrated and is being used for dark rituals. The screams that echo in the night are inhuman, but some of our townsfolk may yet survive. Follow the path that lies between my tavern and the blacksmith shop to find the church and save who you can. Perhaps I can tell you more if we speak again. Good luck!"

This game, and many other games (regardless of what some people who try to besmirch this medium will tell you) is one of those groundbreaking things that one carries with him/her until the very end and even beyond. This is simply a token of what people are capable of, the testament of the power of art, the ability to change others with this sincere and honest thing that came out of the artist and was molded by everything the artist loved -- and put into a piece of art of his/her own in order to further draw the circle of wonder, and passion, and creativity.

Have been enjoying this while working, thanks Diablo Realm. It sparks an old memory from my youth.

The most iconic song from my childhood. Too many hours spent here

Man, the chill started running down and up my spine as soon as this started playing. This game was absolutely captivating when it came out. Yes, I played the original at Launch, I'm an old gamer. But, I never realized how perfect this dank music is for this game. Then, I also realized what brilliant guitar playing it is and how awesome it is to listen to on its own. Thanks for posting this

It was a hell of a game. The Blizzard of today looks nothing like that.

The mood this theme conveyes... amazing to this day. Tristram is the safe hub in the game, the only place where you're safe from the horrors lurking below. But you're never supposed to feel too safe to stay a while and listen. After all, you had a quest to complete and it was only a matter of time before hell would spill into the world.

I may hold Diablo 2 as one of my favorite games of all time but there's just something about the atmosphere setting and soundtrack of the first game that just can't be topped in my eyes
