every single thing about this video is so unbelievably japanese it's amazing also the chord progression is very very similar to pachelbel's canon in D, you won't unhear it
  • It's a song about not wanting to get out of bed because it's cold af. This ain't just a kids song.
  • “Wish the bathroom could come to me” This is the most relatable song of all time 💀

Somewhere in Japan, a kid decides to become a drummer because of Nyango Star And that warms my heart
  • Wanted to bring attention to the singer's vocals. He's got a very soothing and calm singing voice, but can also sing along just as well with the loud and more aggressive parts. Obviously Nyango Star is awesome, but the vocalist is pretty damn good too :)

I'm starting to think this legend is perfectly qualified for the job

this woman invented a whole new genre: deathcore childrens music

I might just be tired, but this song genuinely is making me emotional. It's a nice homage to small struggle. I love it.
  • The best part is that the person inside the mascot can’t see crap, so this is muscle memory and days of practice just to play that well.

I love how "possessed with a concerned face" is just the default state of Nyangostar
  • Never knew the lyrics to any of this band's music, but they seem entirely appropriate given the visuals
  • All of my respect goes to the composer who wrote 'head boppage' on the sheet music

I knew the metal part was fast, but I didn't realize they were literally creating a quadruple-time feel. That's cool as hell.

for those who don't know, this character is called nyango star. 'nya' is japanese onomatopoeia for a cat meow, 'ringo' is japanese for apple, and ringo starr was the drummer for the beatles. put them together and you have an apple cat who plays the drums - nyango star!

I just want to point out the musical storytelling they're doing. How the music is soft and sweet when they're wrapped in the futon and in the warm room, and gets harsh and rough when they're exposed to the freezing cold. It's like a metal children's song, and I really love it.

"WE'RE MAKING IT OUT OF THE FUTON WITH THIS ONE!"

I live and teach in Japan and something I haven't seen noted in the comments (at least as far as I can see) is how relevant the original video is for Japanese people. The thing is, central heating is seriously rare here; most people get through winter with localised heating (kerosene heaters, electric blankets being the most affordable) so it seriously sucks balls in winter here. The average apartment or house also has terrible insulation, at least compared to the Canadian houses I lived in. My students all resonated with the original video so much they all showed their parents the song, which is a major achievement if you ask me.

this isnt a kids song. this is a human song. the kids are just innocent enough to be honest about it. plus the squishie drummer is just beyond cute.

i fucking love this song, my older sister would use to put this on at the mornings in summer when i was little, it still brings me to these days, the worst part of my life was going to happen right after and i couldnt expect any of it so i innocently lived happily those years, i will always find the same joy that i found when i was a kid in this song.
