In any golf iron fitting, it's important for the fitter to nail in the correct iron category for the players. Then, the golf iron fitting can progress and a single model can be identified that is best for his or her swing.

In this video, 2nd Swing video and content specialist Michael Bohnenstingl goes through a Tour Van iron fitting. As a 7.1 handicap, Michael is a candidate to transition from a game-improvement iron (his TaylorMade M4 irons) to a players irons that offer better feel and more workability.

The older gentlemen there is awesome. Did a putter fitting with him at the 2nd swing store in The Colony, Tx.

I love watching videos on fittings. Hopefully I’ll have a better understanding for when I go. Great video. Thank you.

I just went through another iron fitting two days ago. When I was last fit, I was a 15 handicap and was fitted to some Callaway Game Improvement Irons. Now that I usually play of an 8 handicap, I wanted to get fit into a better suited iron. They had me try a number of Players-Distance irons. I told them I was open minded to whatever may be best for me, as opposed to being brand-loyal to only one. As a result, they had me try TaylorMade P790, Titleist T200, Callaway Apex, Ping i525, Srixon ZX5, and Mizuno Pro 225. After about an hour of hitting, reviewing, analyzing numbers, etc, the 225's were determined to be the best fit for me. I was also extremely impressed with how good a Mizuno iron feels--something I've never experienced before. Really excited to see how they treat me this year.
  • ...this video spoke to my SOUL... lol... in the similar boat as this guy and been considering the SAME CLUBS...just time to pick a fitter...and might come see you guys in Phx...

Good topic, I'm playing 'game-improvement' irons with regular shafts of 7. And they are ten years old!

Nice! The 2nd Swing Channel is one of the more objective and brand agnostic channels on the air. Love your store in Wilmington DE. !! The staff is great.

Great video guys. I too have been debating the switch from game improvement to more of a players iron. My game has improved over the past couple of years and I'm getting tired of the offset in the improvement irons, toss in those outlying fliers and the decision becomes much easier. I currently play the Srixon Z545 game improvement irons and have been eyeing the Z785 or ZX7's. I'm surprised the Srixon ZX7's didn't get a whirl in this fitting. Anyhow, keep it up with the awesome content and comparisons. Cheers
  • This is I been waiting for ! Transition from high hdcp to lower or Low to high !

Great video. I have never been fit and thinking about it now.
  • I went from P790 to T100S this year. Couldn’t be happier

Played all the time up until i was 20. Just started again at 38. I went got nyself some Cobra Speedzone irons to relearn on. High loft and more forgiving. I'll switch next year when I have found my swing again and worked out any bad habits.

I wanted Mizuno JPX Forged or Srixon ZX5 so bad, ended up with Ping i210. It’s definitely important to be open minded in a fitting!
  • Great video, I’ve learned a lot about importance of shaft and head combo.

I'm at the other end of this, just got back into the game after many years break and picked up a set of the M4's. Pure joy to hit at the range, will see how they fair up out on the course.

Love to see these kinda videos with mr bobka. Just wish that yall had a location in southern ontario canada
  • I took lessons (finally) and learned how to swing correctly. I just traded in my P790s for T100S after my fitting. Couldn’t be happier. Love these irons
  • I’m left handed and I’ve been looking to get out of the game improvement TaylorMade Sim 2 irons. Really interested in trying a variety of different brands and when I find the head that feels best, then pair it with the right shaft. I’m looking more for tightest dispersion/ consistent workability rather than distance. Do you guys carry all the brands in lefty that you have in righty? Golf tech had very limited lefty clubs to test
  • I use a combo set : mizuno mp 53 7-8 iron, mp64 9 iron, mp 69 Pw. 6 iron is a 28 deg hybrid. Best irons ever made, from the golden age of mizuno!!!!
  • @home4ya
recently did same and LOVE my i210s, M4 to these are a big jump, my i210s (T200) may be a happy medium?
  • Good video, thank you. I am currently looking to replace my aging game improvement irons and have been contemplating getting players irons as my handicap trends to single digits, but I am on the fence. I am not sure I am seeing the full value of stepping away from my super game improvement irons. I have plenty of distance, high shots with good descent angle and all the forgiveness the clubs provide. Shot shaping workability is a bit muted of course, but seems a fair cost for better misses. What am I missing, why would it be better to go to a players iron? I want to continue improving, but not seeing enough benefit to potentially make the game more frustrating with reduced forgiveness. Id truly appreciate your thoughts to help me decide!
