The fact that half the tiles on windows start menu and on Xbox Home Screen are ads should have been a pretty good indicator that they’re in the ad business
  • @jannegrey593
I hope that EU will force Microsoft to enable this option normally. Not everyone has Internet everywhere, every time.
  • @jafstraycat
With the 22H2 update, this workaround was broken. If you kill the Network Flow it will just tell you the internet crashed and restart it and circles back to the same position. INSTEAD, from the command prompt, type OOBE\BYPASSNRO and hit Enter. It will appear to start the entire startup process over. But, this time when you Shift+F10, it will go directly into Local Account setup.

Those scenarios mentioned at about 4:30 actually happen a LOT in outback regions of Australia, where the only access to internet is via sattelite or low bandwidth adsl connection (where the exchange can be 30km away ... or more)

Being a former computer tech I always raised concerns when windows 8, 8.1 & 10 made it difficult to use without a MSA. It's sad to say but I just don't think they're going to listen without a legal organization drawing a line in the sand and yanking MS's head out of that same sand to see the line drawn.

Dear Microsoft: give us the option to purchase your software and then leave us alone, or to be free with ads. Don't force us to have to work around your nonsense.
  • Great job! I am sick of this surveillance nightmare we live in. Subbed!!
  • @RachelRhiarti
Great video, and disturbing-but-reassuring to know I'm not imagining the number of times my suggestions have mysteriously adjusted to fit a verbal conversation I had away from my computer. What a marvellous dystopia we've built for ourselves...
  • @FatalVayln
If you do the setup with ethernet plugged in until the "Let's add your Microsoft account", unplug ethernet, and hit the back arrow on the add account screen, it then prompts you to create a local account.
  • @PulsarTECH
Glad that some big YT channels actually bring it up. I think there should be more videos like this. Honestly, it gets ridiculous because now you can't even use an alarm clock app without creating an account! And poping up messeges on a full screen telling you that they ARE collecting cookies isn't any better than just collecting them without you knowing.

On update 22H2 as at today... instructions are slightly different. After ending the task as at 7:25...go back into command prompt and enter the command: OOBE\BYPASSNRO The system will reboot and this time you will get the option to continue without internet connection
  • If you hold shift and press F10 at the spot where you select your Wi-Fi, it will bring up the command prompt, type OOBE\BYPASSNRO when you click enter the computer will restart, when you get back to the same place it should have a "I don't have internet" Option beside the NEXT Button.😉 This should work for everyone at the moment unless they patch it. Though assuming they'll let you type the \ key because I had that problem, but I figured a way around that and can't remember how🤔 hopefully not a problem for y'all. P.S I'm the unfortunate soul that don't have internet at the house so I had to get creative
  • I'm so sick of companies trying to keep their products after I shell out good money to buy them for myself. I'm done with all the always-on bullshit, these account tracking things (I've seen the same sudden pop-up of ads you mentioned several times), etc. Not buying any more, and going to jail-break everything I possibly can. If it dies in the process, then I'll go back to living without it. Because the alternative of just handing them more power pisses me off to no end.
  • As a security contractor who regularly builds systems that should never have Internet access (isolated NVRs and physical access control systems) this will be quite helpful. Sharing it among all my fellow engineers. Thanks.
  • @ayjanu
The more predatory that Microsoft becomes, just makes me even more glad that I switched to Linux when I did (around the time of the Windows 8 era). I'd finally found a distro that I was happy with, that ticked all my boxes (Manjaro Linux), and I've never looked back since; eight years and counting.
  • Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that this guy gave us 15 minutes of solid information, and how much work he must have put into this video (e.g. the self-made clips)? Also I got windows 11 from thekey365
  • @DeaconXPS
Preach it Jay!! As a Windows user, since the early DOS boot days, I can verify your statements with certainty. Until we the consumer speak up and stand firm it will only get worse, eroding our autonomy. Appreciate your voice.
  • @arbogli
Remember those times where you installed your Windows and then simply needed to tune it at your own taste instead of having to turn off and walk like on a minefield to avoid all the crap Microsoft wants for you?
  • @Chaosfred
At 9:30 When connected to internet, I usually instead got the "Skip this step (for later)" button on bottom part. This button maybe not displayed and will only show up when you hover over the hit area. On the other hand, it seems this also dependant on your installation disk type. You know, like company/educational version, "complete" version (for entertainment AND work), "standalone" version, clean lite, OS only, etc.

You can actually make this "your account is locked" part much faster. I have a Microsoft account that I have locked out (not on purpose at the time, but Microsoft refuses to re-activate it).. It works well for making local accounts as I only have to put in the address and it'll give me the local account option.
