In this video, we're diving into the world of character modelling and animation, and I'm going to show you the process I use to create a fully animated game character from scratch. I'll be moving quickly to give you an overview of the techniques and processes involved, so you can apply them to your own projects. Plus, I've got lots of tips, tricks, and workflow shortcuts to make the process even smoother.

    To anyone who's been following along and learning for a while now, go back and work on the stuff you gave up on. It's the best way to realize how much better you've gotten. I was literally shocked at how bad i used to be, and how much stuff i gave up on took me seconds to fix and ended up becoming some of my favorite pieces.

    I'm more interested in sculpting and can't model a bit, but I still enjoyed the video! It's always nice to see the workflow of someone who's good at both. Always new tips and tricks to pick up!
  • This is so amazing! and a very clear instruction on your working process.
  • @RDD87z
    will be interesting to see you adding animations to your characters with that rokoko suit mocap, hope to see that Grant!. You're amazing, thank you for your tutorials!
  • Great video. You should consider creating a course that covers the end to end process of creating a character in Blender and exporting it to UE5.

    This has been the most approachable blender tutorial I've ever seen
  • It's really hard to figure out my workflow with everyone offering so many different ways of doing things. But, Grant, your workflow is pretty much the best and easiest I've come across. I'm going to try your "plane" technique on anime girl creations and see if I can finally get my first finished basic mesh. (also, thank goodness I can slow down the video to 25/100. :D
  • @freshplay2
    fantastic tutorial .thanks for sharing

    This was so helpful because me and my friend (who is very good at coding,while I’m more of a 3d modeller but do both)are going to be making a game and I needed a good model this was so helpful thanks😃

    Using Sculpt mode to aid poly modeling is one of those things which are very useful, but some wouldn't even consider, because "Sculpt mode is for sculpting!" :D

    Saving this for later when i have the computer to run this 🤣😭

    One caveat is that in order to learn something like this "from scratch" in Blender, requires one to also have a basic sketch with pencil skill as well. And this shouldn't ignore a basic understanding of human/humanoid physiology and body proportions. I personally spend 90% of my time studying architect, botany, animals, mechanical engineering, and various other designs in addition to sketching, while 10% of the time is spent transferring that to 3D digital techniques. It helps to know what you are trying to build in the first place.

    i would love to see some blend shapes for eye blinking or talking with mouth for a low poly character. I would love to buy a course that goes in detail for making a low poly character for games that talk blinks and things like those. I have not found something like this online for course or youtube video.
  • WOW!!!!!!!! Super! :hand-pink-waving::hand-pink-waving::hand-pink-waving:

    Very cool! I created my last 45 low poly characters, using another technique, directly, without a reference image, but I've used it this way too.
