Lyrics:
Age ain't nothin' but a number
Throwin' down ain't nothin' but a thang
This lovin' I have for you, it'll never change
Age ain't nothin' but a number
Throwin' down ain't nothin' but a thang
This lovin' I have for you, it'll never change

Aaliyah was 14 when this was recorded. R Kelly was 27. A grown man wrote this song for a 14 year old girl. How where her parents not disturbed by this?

Her voice is amazing but it's a little unsettling that a 14 year old is singing these lyrics...

  • This is what freshman girls say about their senior boyfriends lmao

If she were alive today, she would have celebrated her 30th anniversary of her debut album. Rest In Paradise, Aaliyah.
  • Proverbs 14:19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
  • This video was made in 1994, Aaliyah was 15. Chances are she was working on this song when she was 14. Side-eye for all the adults who ignored what they saw happening.

I’m 15 and I can’t imagine being married to a 27 yr old.. poor girl rest easy she was abused and nobody talks about it

I am 45 year old white guy who loved rnb and hip hop starting in late 80s. I was around 16 when this and Back and Forth came out-summer of 94. Shit was fire. My life was girls, parties and sports back then so hearing she was around the same age as me but also possibly dating Rkelly just really didn’t hit hard. Years later, thinking about how the powers that be had her sing this, even though it’s an absolute classic, hurts especially as a father of a mixed daughter. Aaliyah was one of most gifted and beautiful people to walk this earth and going through what she did at this age when this song was made is sad. Thank for your contribution to this world baby girl RIP

Though the lyrics are disturbing, this song is such a vibe.

Her voice was so mature. That’s why it confused everyone. Rest in paradise babygirl!!!! I’m 32 and I was 10 when she died. My mom always had Aaliyah on repeat. I love this girl! Always ❤❤❤
