Well I'm Igbo and often when people ask where I'm from and I say Nigeria, they go, "really? You look more Jamaican". In my head I'm like, "No shit Sherlock where do you think Jamaicans descend from!??" 🙄
  • I am 70 yrs old. I never had any of this History. The CHILDREN should learn this at 5yrs old.

  • Interesting history concerning the African slave trade. I was aware of it, but didn’t realize there were so many African tribes which were taken as captives/slaves. Thank you for this video, this is history that needs to be remembered.

“I am Nigerian because a white man created Nigeria and gave me that identity. I am black because the white man constructed black to be as different as possible from his white. But I was Igbo before the white man came.” - Half of a yellow sun, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
  • Marcus Garvey famously wrote: “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots”
  • Thank you so much for this video. I appreciate all the work that was out into this video. None of us are never too old to study our history and past down to our youth. Thank you for your contribution.

I'm Mexican, but on my mother's side I have ancestry from the Angola/Congo region. In Veracruz, where my grandfather was from, there is an iconic heroe known as the "First Liberator of the Americas", Gaspar Yanga, whom I idolize the same as Pancho Villa or Emiliano Zapata. It is rumored, one of Mexico's greatest presidents, Vicente Guerrero, is of African descent. Guerrero abolishing slavery in Mexico in 1829 coincidentally I think further cements this claim.
  • Oh My! This video is so touching! I just can't imagine the pain and suffering that our ancestors endured. May their sweat, blood and tears be weapons against those who afflicted them. May their lands never know peace. Let all the evil that they did to us fall back upon their own heads.
