How To Grow On Twitch?

If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.

But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!

Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What Bitrate And Settings Should I Use For Streaming?

The easiest way to understand bitrate is by calling what it actually is, your upload speed to the Twitch servers.

Now you’ll need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be, this means 1080p 60 frames per second will need a bitrate of 6000, which roughly equals 6megabits upload speed on your end being taken up

By lowering your resolution and framerate, you can make it a lot easier to stream, for example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920x1080, but change your output to 1280x720 otherwise known as 720p you drop down to only needing a bitrate of 4500 or 4.5megabits.

If you still want 1080, you can even just lower your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500bitrate.

Couldn’t be a better time for this video since yesterday I quite literally “just went live, and hoped for the best” lol

As an Autistic person I really struggle with most 'how-to' guides because they're not actually good. They're super vague, saying things like 'learn to market yourself' or 'talk constantly'. Which are fine tips for people who don't need explicit instruction to actually understand what needs to be done. This video was immensely helpful as it had specific things within those categories that I can actually action. I've had some pretty decent growth already, but this will really help me go that step further. Thank you <3

I really appreciate this breakdown; it's far more damaging to set unrealistic parameters and expectations for something than to face the facts surrounding the desired outcome, in this case, being seen, followed, and recommended to other viewers. I'm currently in that camp of hesitation, but that's a general problem I have with most things, something I'm working on. It's nice to see direct answers to complex questions. Thanks for this.

Thank you i almost gave up today, its hard playing for hours and no one shows up :(
  • @jacobd.8801
This was heartbreaking to watch. It made me realize how much I haven't actually tried to stream, but thank you for the tips that I will now use to hopefully grow.
  • Thank you for the realism at the end, a lot of people don’t want to hear that, but we all need a dose of reality sooner or later.
  • @pipplypaul2620
Love the honesty and tough love. I was nervous at first. When you started to talk about a list of 32 things, and started getting a bit (politely) tough, I knew there would be some tough pills to swallow. But I did watch to the end, and I did take on board what you had to say. I'm glad to say that while I'm only doing about 15 of these right now, I can see the areas I need to improve. I can see how to improve. And after seriously contemplating the tough pills, I do not believe they are game/enders for me. This has boosted my overall confidence while highlighting things I need to work on. Thank you.
  • @TheHugii
thank you so much for this video. i've been trying since over a month and it's really difficult to grow on twitch when you only have one or two viewers because you're always gonna be on the very bottom of the channel lists.
  • @DezzNytes
Thank you for always being real with your audience! I started noticing lack in growth after months of slow and steady growth and decided to hit the brakes on my stream. Instead I want to focus fully on content creation right now. I've found a secret love in video editing and am working hard to come up with video ideas, guides, etc. My small community has fully embraced my small break from streaming and supports me which is a great feeling. Also doing 26/32 tips already is not too bad if I do say to myself!
  • I remember averaging 2-4 viewers, consistency is something that also helps a lot gain viewers and traction, I can count with my two hands how many days I haven't streamed this year so far, Streaming should be something done for fun/hobby/passion, but this video is really helpful! Thank you!
  • @thomashester8573
ive worked on several of these tips, not all 32 sadly but im getting there, but your wording and tips for creating and harvesting success is outstanding. I love the transitions and the helpful insite and look forward to seeing more :D
  • @MrSmitheroons
Just real and detailed enough to be helpful and actionable, just simple and encouraging enough to be, well encouraging. That's a really good job putting this together. Thank you, an thanks for putting this out there.
  • @RicoGnized
I think the biggest problem is, that many beginners don't watch their own stuff. Sometimes out of laziness, sometimes because they are aware of the fact, that they just sat there, stonefaced, doing nothing other than playing the game, while not saying a word. All you need to do, is search those streamers with 0-2 viewers. It's just sad, because some of them genuinely seem like pleasent, friendly guys... So to all of you out there. I think, one of the most important tips in this video is to ENTERTAIN. Don't look at the numbers. Just be you. Be silly. Make jokes. Sooner rather than later, someone will be in your stream, in your chat and be laughing with you. Oh and quick note: This channel helped me alot to take a step back and look on what I can improve on. So. Thank you for being out there, providing us little ones, with some really life altering tips! <3
  • @VeeScene
Tip number 32. I really appreciate you keeping it real. I normally would just keep going and going I'm stubborn like that. But if in a month or so I haven't grown then I'm gonna take a step back, and see what I can realistically improve. Thank you.
  • Surprisingly I found out a few of these just by taking a second and thinking about it after a stream, I appreciate everything you are doing to help all of us. I'm at 27/32 atm and am planning on continuing my improvement. Been streaming for about 2 weeks now and even just getting a few extra viewers makes me feel it's worth it (Don't even get me started on the feeling I get when I get a new follower!) But again I appreciate it!
  • Appreciate the reality check at the end. It actually made me realize I should keep going despite feeling like there's not much coming out of it because even though my audience is small I am getting people to come back on a pretty consistent basis.
  • @billehans3272
As soon as you said ,,I got a challenge for you, Billie", I was like *grabbing a piece of paper and a pen*. I got 23/32 and I'm so glad that I've been watching your videos since shortly before I've started streaming. I've been streaming for about 5 months now, using many of your tips and it's going so well! I've had 23 viewers a couple of times now and got an amazing little community. Man, I couldn't thank you enough for all your help!
  • @madspooks1097
I love how I’m sitting at my desk day job watching this, realizing there are things I need to improve for my after work streams… (alt-tabs to fix all my streaming stuff immediately) lol
  • @NerdWytch
Hey, I really appreciate that last tip. Honesty is refreshing and it's honestly a blessing to have people like you out here guiding us noobs to the hope of success. 💕
