After watching this, I went to my videos and was going to do this on my videos. When I looked at the retention on one of my videos, I saw that at 8 seconds in almost HALF of the viewers clicked off. As the video went on it went lower and lower. I don't really know what else to do except post more until I'm better.

I did this on a week old short that got 3 views and all of a sudden it got 3K+ views breaking my previous view record by 3x!

I started my channel in 2022 and did it for 6 month and then stopped for almost a year and started back this past September and I have been watching your videos since 2022 and doing my best implementing your advice and it has worked. I have a gaming channel and I have changed the theme of the game 4 times trying to find that I can actually enjoy long term and it took a year and a half to do that. I went from Hunt showdown to Star Wars Battlefront 2 to Battlefield 2048 then No Mans Sky and now Formula 1 sim racing which is my true enjoyment and passion and I am also good at it.

I thought it was going to be like changing the title or thumbnail but I was so wrong. This is actually a really smart and practical idea, might need to try it out! Thank you!

Quick question Marcus! After you trimmed your video, did you experience a dip in views initially before the views took off? I had a video that had been up for 5 days and had gotten about 2,000 views - but the retention was low, there was one point in the video that seemed to turn viewers off. I trimmed the offending clip out of the video but then my views dropped from about 20 - 30 views an hour down to 1 or 2 views an hour! Most views (over 90%) were coming from the YouTube home page before. If you trim the video and push a new version out, does that mean the algorithm "resets" the video to Day 1, as if it just got published? I'm worried that by trying to fix my retention, I've actually messed up my views.
