  • The plot became predictable, but the acting was top-notch. Thats why they got the highest rating for the TVN cable channel. KSH and KJW deserve the fame and ratings. I mean, their acting and visuals are everything. ❤

The show was really good in the beginning but as it progressed it became more and more predictable and i felt like it started out really realistic but then suddenly became unrelatable..... especially there was this pattern of them getting progress and her illness being brought back/eun-seong comes up and they are back to square one.... Dont get me wrong this show was still really good but i dont know if it fully deserved the ratings it got and i doubt it would have done well without soo-hyun as the ml.

Honestly if it’s not for Soo Hyun and Ji Won, I would’ve dropped it. I cannot believe they put all tropes in one drama (rare disease, car crash, forgotten first love, memory loss, not recognizing your lover, etc). This would’ve been popular in early 2000s but not now. Also, one thing that disappoints me is the fact that they crossed paths more than once when they were kids. One is okay, two is trying too hard. It almost feels like they are destined to be together. It should be a story about two people choosing to be together despite all the difficulties—not because of destiny. That just ruined it for me. I wish the leads meet again in other drama—hopefully with far better plot.

My favorite scene in the drama has to be the epilogue at the end of ep 10 (i think) where the FL hears a drunk ML confess outside her room door that he loves her. That whole sequence of mixed emotions brought instant tears to my eyes. Amazing acting. If not for the acting and the visuals of the drama, I would've dropped it long ago.

I think the fourth trope of Korean dramas is not "they are brother and sister" but "they met as children" (but don't recognize each other as adults until later on in the drama) and of course this drama has this trope as well. I'm so sick and tired of this trope by now. Usually it adds nothing to the plot but functions as a proof that they were ment for each other.

Kim Soo Hyun is the actor who can cry so well and delivers his emotions perfectly at every single episode. He should be awarded for his crying skills 🤣😂
  • @QueenXKnit
Read that the drama was registered(or something like that) in 2010, so when makjang dramas were still very popular, so not surprised about the melodramatic accent of this drama XD

It feels anachronistic had the feel of old kdramas with a new spin. I absolutely loved it. Yes things were dragging towards the end and even though the finish left some things to be desired, I also liked it in how melancholy it was. Overall an amazing drama. Oh and the acting brought this to a new dimension. If they were lesser actors it could have gone poorly but Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun along with supporting cast brought something special to their performances. Really well done.

I didn't see the "bad birth bad person, good birth good person" but now that you say it, I totally agree. Very good analysis.
  • @yaongzzz
Now that I know you watched the glory, i would really love to hear a review from you because i loved that drama😭
  • The actors made it the sucess it is. Sometimes, it is easy to drop it at the beginning or midway or even towards the end but when the actors are good, you stay til the end. I've only watched short cuts of it until now but it's enough to make me want to watch it. They make it work. Effortlessly.

The main female lead has really good other drama you could check out like fight for my way with park soejun or in a more melo type of drama my liberation notes (especially if you want to see her silent acting as she IS very silent most of the time with some impactful monologue). And I agree that honestly without all the really great actors (really I can't name any bad actor in this drama) this drama wouldn't have been that big and the latter part were a bit too easy at times but that was to be expected from this writer, she NEVER writes realistic I mean she got an alien, a north south Korea romance, miraculous healing from a deathly sickness... But that's why they also work so well, they're pure contemporary fantasy !
  • I also loved that Kim Soo Hyun played the character who took over the Hotel del Luna at the end.
  • @hmwj
defintely agree with the flat villain characters. i wonder if that is why they tried like every possible plot trope instead, like to make up for what the characters themselves couldn't convey without the chaos. while hyunwoo was a "perfect" man, i think his self-victimized miscommunication was a pretty significant flaw for me that 'balanced' him out. i don't think he overshadowed haein for me though, personally. i've actually never liked a female character lead more. i just had so much empathy and softness for her, despite her harsh exterior. i think jiwon did such a phenomenal job in conveying this role. like you said, her eyes tell an entire story and more, and that never fails to leave me in awe. i was so impressed by her acting and also their synergy, especially filming so many different scenes and emotions in an order asynchronous from the plot
  • this is indeed the first time I have seen your reviews (I only see 10% of my Asian dramas as Chinese, 20% Japanese, 70% Korean) and I am grateful to have spent 31 minutes with you. The only personal observation I might add to your excellent and thorough characterization was that the sheer fear (total intimidation) of the male lead toward his previously happy/married wife indicated an unbelievable degree of shyness and inexperience with her (disrobing etc.), especially sine the real (?) miscarriage is there somewhere, and never explored. Did they have one awkward encounter that failed and nevermore? This left me with a lingering puzzlement throughout my first viewing loop, especially given one theory/preview I stumbled across that might have brought their baby back as having been "adopted" by the slapstick relatives with their little household inside the crazy family. I too suspended all believability concerns for the sake of all the other good things in this production, they just didn't matter. Maybe their add-on two episodes could explore that very dramatic-possibility miscarriage, but it could also have drawn away from the overall happy ending theme.

I am in love with main actress since Love Struck in the city. She was so good in this drama 🙌
  • @ruhi6136
Completely agree with your list of best acting moments but personally would like to add the cathedral scene in Germany and truly what an amazing actress Kim Jiwon is!! Her eye acting is really on another level and I agree everything about the main leads is amazing like they complement each other so well from visuals, acting everything! They immerse me into their roles sm that after an episode ends I come to a realisation that these both are not actually married irl lol
  • @crazyluYO
I’ve enjoyed Kim Jiwon since High Kick. Lol. She started as an ice princess, and I’m glad to see her return. She’s definitely one of the strongest in her generation and overall. She killed it. Kim Soohyun has always been top tier, so nothing new there. This drama could’ve been ONLY the two of them.
  • @txpepper
Great review! 👏🏻 Glad you took the time to do this one. I was waiting until all the eps dropped before watching. Your review has prompted me to follow through and watch it. ~Thanks!
