It's too dangerous to live in Grindavik anymore. Sad for the people, but better to be safe.

A few days I commented that it seems this town has been lost. Even if there is no further significant damage to the town I don't think it's feasible to continue to live there in the way people have, because this could continue indefinitely. It's clearly an extremely active area, and the risks are just too high. My thoughts are with the citizens displaced, and the loved ones of the gentleman who remains missing.

Thank you for this! It is such a horrible and tense situation here for all concerned. And my heart and soul aches for everyone.

Many thanks for the factual updates, the new sink hole is terrifying. I am truly concerned for all who are there carrying out their duties regardless of the danger.

Thank you for this very informative video. I feel so saddened for all who have lived there.

I hope the Icelandic government has a backup plan in case the geothermal power plant is destroyed. And they should start looking for a location for New Grindavik, because that old town won't be safe for years.

You can build all the walls you want to divert the flow of magma however, it also can travel underground in Lava Shoots. In other words, the best protection is to get out of it's way.

Scientists are saying that Iceland appears to have entered a phase of increased volcanic activity. So this may be the beginning of a long series of difficulties for the people of Iceland with respect to volcanic activity

I can’t imagine what it is like to have magma erupting from the earth in cracks like this. Those of us who do not live in areas like this forget how active some areas of our planet are. Seems very horrifying. 😢

So far it looks like it could have been so much worse though. - There was so much warning time. Everyone evacuated, late but they did it. - No submarine eruption near the town. - Larger first eruption occurred to the the north. No damage to infrastructure. - Second eruption stopped quickly. Grindavik was never a good location to build a town, but of course that was not known to the people of the time. But everyone got out in time. Only one fatality so far. Life can be rough, but it goes on. All the best to the people who are affected!

Fascinating. We will never conquer nature. The environment matters. While this event is totally natural we must do all we can to help our planet and learn.

I have had to piece together whether the crack in the middle of town is connected further North with the crack where the eruptions in December and now January took place, over the course of a week. This is the first video that actually shows a map of all of the features. Thank you.

Sending prayers for the people and their town 🙏🙏

Thank you so much for sharing with us. God bless

I remember bouncing on that Rainbow thing near the sports center @05:51 now it has a big crack against it.
  • @annarawicz
Even when the eruptions calm down, the lava cools down and there is no immediate danger, what are they going to do with those cracks and sinkholes in the ground? You can't just pour concrete into fissures and even the surface. Is there any data on how deep they can be?

I feel for the people who have lost their homes and jobs without a dout the government should help them. But i find it amazing watching the earth grow and renew itself.

You can see the fissure which runs through Grindavik on old photos. In those times the fissure was next to the town. But they closed the fissure and built houses in top of it...
