With the failing economy in the United States, what should potential expats and others looking to move abroad consider to protect their assets? Stocks, bonds, sell, invest and more. Whether you are already retired, looking to become a retiree or are still working it is important to take a measured, logical approach to stock market investing.

  • Are you worried about the state of the markets? Are you looking at becoming at expat as a way to protect against loss of retirement?

I'm not in a panic mode. I was looking at the NASDAQ 2023 year and 2020 and I found the NASDAQ values far below in respect to 8-5-24. The markets will come back. Yes, I lost value, but stocks pay dividends every month. I have cash flow. That's what I want.
  • Berkshire Hathaway has been liquidating shares over the last few months. If you have good solid shares this is not a problem. AI driving the the stock market for last yr. And a bit. The fundamentals for this has been evident for over a yr.
  • I'm not worried about my High Yield Max Dividends at all. The one's i have buy options and puts on every trade. If the stock goes up or down i make money. The bigger the swing the more money i make in Dividends. Not worried about share price. I get paid per share. The lower the spares the more i can buy. I averges out in the long run.
  • I had been wanting to branch out with my investments and this gave me the perfect chance to go ahead and hop in.

Anyone that gets shaken out of their positions with this kind of "collapse"? They're in the wrong game. On the other hand, all the people with money and ready to buy? Dude, they got handed one hell of a discount on their stock purchase (which believe me, they made on that correction) that they were going to make anyway. In other words: Cha-Ching!

A flat market does not help me, so more than glad to see the swings. At some point, I will need to make the decision to get ultra conservative closer to retirement. Another great topic.
  • By all historical indicators, successive quarters of negative growth, we've been in recession for a while. Combined with massive inflation over the last 4-years, and a black swan event to create panic, and bingo... market crash.

I have a small state pension (FL ain’t going insolvent any time soon); VA disability (tax exempt & the 4th largest branch of the FED still has its doors open) & SSA (reduction of benefits hasn’t happened yet). While the COLA adjustments don’t truly keep up with the true cost of living; my income is far less volatile than the Ponzi-schemes of the stock market or real estate. Turtle vs hare money means less emotional transactions.

I rather own property's and be a little cash poor than visa versa.
  • lol Scott. The market has made up half of its losses from yesterday.
  • last week someone at playa roca told me to buy as much sp500 index funds as i could. would you say; be careful?
  • The stock market is the billionaires $CASINO$- the house always WIN… buy tangible assets like gold bullion ( store of value) that has gone up 25% in the last year.. buy silver bullion or silver stocks that have gone 200% in the las few years if you want to protect your fiat $$
