  • Well now Noctis's final confrontation with him makes sense. He's not putting down a twisted family member fueled with spite and malice, he's giving peace to a member of a family who was wronged in the worse way imaginable. You deserved better, Ardyn.

Somnus: “...just envious, perhaps.” Me: Perhaps?! Ardyn: “ ”Perhaps”? ” Me: You tell him Ardyn!
  • @Mystrohan
"I understood:... That a sinner could not be allowed to sit the throne!" Well Somnus, that pretty well rules you out.

Aka When your most popular character is the Villain

Imagine raising a whole kingdom out of nothing, and then being brought back from the dead 2000 years later just so you can get your ass whooped to a remix of your own theme song

The way he said "Until you stole it from me. You ripped it from my arms!" hit me emotionally.

5:09 - “Lies, Fairytales, and Fallacies - ALL OF IT!” Not sure why, but this line stands out to me. A part of me wants to use it in general conversation someday.

too bad that the director has resigned, and the dlc is cancelled. . . now we'll never see the closure of this tale, where noctis and ardyn go hand in hand defeat the real villain. . . the "gods" who play them like a pawn in a chessboard. . .

This is like an opposite version of the Dante vs Fruit powered Urizen .

Somnus is so pathetic. He tried to win the moral race at the end, asking to be understand and for the greater good. But he was envious.

I love how Ardyn says "Let the game begin", and Somnus replies with "This is no beginning - only the end." just like how when Ardyn said that to Noctis, he replied with "No. Now they end."

This is what makes FFXV great! We have two characters: Noctis and Ardyn. Both can be the Hero of the story or the villain. It changes the way we view things when we play the game again.
  • In the end, even Somnus was a victim of fate... The astrals are the true villans of the story.

Somnus begs for Ardyn's understanding, but he never once tried to empathize with his brother. He tried to kill Ardyn, accidentally murdering the Oracle, stole his throne and sentenced him to millennia of darkness and suffering... and Somnus thinks HE'S the victim here?! He got everything and never paid for his crimes. He built a nation and a myth out of blood, lies and got to rest in peace.
  • Somnus justified his greed and envy with saving their "people". He truly commited treason, killing both his brother and The Oracle. Somnus is the true monster. It's a pity we didn't get Ardyn corrupting Somnus to a point of no return. That would be satisfying.
  • "Just envious" >>>> exactly what led to all of these mishaps dude...
  • I feel really sorry for Ardyn as a character. He's a villain, yeah, and he causes a lot of pain and destruction on his quest. But I honestly can't even hate him for it. As human beings, we can't even imagine what it would be like to be subjected to 2,000 years of torment, and after being betrayed by those close to us, no less. I don't think you could expect a person to come out of that and NOT be as bitter and hateful as Ardyn. The poor guy deserved a rest. There's only so much a person can take before they break, and he far-exceeded that point, I'm sure. As a side note, I really love how Ardyn and Somnus have this heartbreaking conversation while they're wailing on each other. I feel like it humanizes them --- reminds us at the end of the day, they're still brothers and part reason Ardyn is so hurt and embittered is BECAUSE of that fact. It's the people we love the most who have the power to hurt us the most, and this battle really shows what a rich and complicated history they have together.
