Norman, Oklahoma Dump Truck vs Power Lines - February 13, 2019

Published 2019-02-13
Just after 4:30 pm on February 13, 2019, a call came in of a grass fire due to a dump truck sitting power lines on 120th Ave Southeast just north of Etowah Rd. The call for Norman Fire Department was canceled soon after, as no fire occurred, but they still went to the scene to help close the road. Crews were in the area doing tree work, trimming trees, and clearing out the ditches when the dump truck pulled forward with the back still up and snagged the powerline that went across the road. When the driver of the truck was putting the bed of the truck down, the tension ended up snapping off at least 3 power poles and taking the lines down. Several houses in the area were without power and crews were quickly working to reroute the power to those respective residents. No injuries were reported from this incident, but Norman police are reporting that 120th Southeast Ave will be closed for some time while crews look to repair the poles, lines, and restore power to the area.
