I purchased a Thomas & Friends All Engine Go My Busy Book in the lead up to Christmas. I paid $20 for the only one left in store. I did a detailed review of this item and looked carefully at the small models in the book. I could see that this was nothing like previous My Busy Book Thomas And Friends offerings. The models were very shabby and lacking loads of the small details that are normally on My Busy Book characters. A comment left on the review pointed out that the back of the book showed incredibly well detailed models. This had me investigation the online sales photos used to promote this My Busy Book. In this video compare the amazing online photo to the small models I find in the book. The differences are ASTONISHING!

But why are these Thomas All Engines Go characters done in a very sub standard way? Considering the My Busy Books in the past have presented some amazing small models for $10 how come the book thats now double the price is so incredibly disappointing. The running joke I see in the comments is the knockoff Thomas toys are better detailed Vs the licensed toys. It certainly seems that way.

Thomas All Engines Go My Busy Books (online description read)
Thomas is an eager little steam engine on the Island of Sodor. He loves new adventures and friends. Thomas and the others work hard to be Really Useful Engines! Nia likes to try new things. Bruno is a smart Brake Car with lanterns. Ride the rails with exciting engines and railway cars! All Engines Go Busy Book includes full-page illustrations, an engaging story, figurines, and a playmat. All Engines Go My Busy Book features colorful illustrations, a storybook, 10 figurines, and a playmat to spark your child’s creativity.

I also look at the Hot Wheels diecast cars & Thomas & Friends area at my local retailer at 7 days prior to Christmas. It's amazing what's NOT there but thats situation normal. I did find in the premium toy and hobby shops in the city some Thomas Wooden Railway stock. Only taken 2 years for it to be freely available in store.

This is really frustrating how we get less detail but we pay more
  • This was an utterly fascinating look into the difference, especially between the prototypes and the final products. You laughing at the difference between the old and new Harold says it all! Great video, thoroughly entertaining.

took me 14 years of being a fan to be mentioned in one of your videos i'm over the moon hahaha glad you talked about it though i've been on about those prototypes since the book leaked they're really cool. i think they're only so shiny because they're made of resin, since most prototypes for promotional photos tend to be, but i can't be sure. they're awesome regardless and hey it'd be cool painting them up and seeing how spiffy you could make them look. back in my day you'd gandy dancer them but YouTube seem to hate tools considering they have such awful maintenance hahaha
  • Online pictures are always so misleading. I recently went on Amazon and ordered a Trackmaster 2 Percy for a good price. The pictures lined up but I instead received an AEG one. Luckily managed to get a refund
  • It's sad to see the state/lack of Thomas stock in Kmart. I remember one in my city that used to have both sides of a long isle rammed full of good Thomas Wooden Railway items and things of that nature. These days, you'd be lucky to find one or two AEG-themed toys in Kmart, if that. Although, incidentally, I can't actually bring myself to buy any AEG stuff.
  • It really is heartbreaking seeing the Thomas stock dwindle further and further. I haven’t bought any new Thomas stuff for a very long time, apart from the new Wooden Railway Percy. I can vividly remember when toys r us was still around, and I was able to get some classic Trackmaster items. Truly good memories. The my busy books I remember vividly. Always liked them. Such a shame seeing how far they’ve fallen. Its very strange, in the online pictures of the AEG my busy book engines, they seem to be made from an entirely different material. It’s like they’ve come from a totally different planet. It’s always interesting seeing you analyze the stock in stores Leo.

It's times like these that I start to ask myself: Who approves toys like these to be made? The "Prototype Model" art on the back of the busy book makes you THINK you're getting something... relatively decent out of it. And then you open the book and you get these VERY ill-defined (Or lack for a better word: Under Detailed) pieces of plastic. Sure the original models from the previous sets of books are a bit under detailed and slightly out of scale, but at least some of them were ok to look at. The All Engines Go ones just look atrocious! And the fact that the designs for these final models, ARE the final product, I look back at the prototypes and think: WHY WEREN'T THE PROTOTYPES THE FINAL PRODUCT!?!!? The final models look more like prototypes then the prototypes themselves!!! I really don't understand how stuff like this can just slip by...
  • @Smudgerfan
Sad how the actual models look like something from the 'Darkside.' reminds me of the Ertl Bluebell prototype.

I think the Leo doing a review of the whole range would be amazing . For the wooden railway revival and comparing it . I think that could be really cool it has been a few years since everyone reviewed so that video I think would be worth it . Of course it would be more analytical video, so it doesn’t get striked
  • @Ajn_animation
its also great to see theses comparison reviews Leo!!!

There are so many problems with the Promo images for the products, I tried to buy this exact aeg book online and i saw those prototypes. I was very disappointed with what came in.. As for those Aeg busy book promos, that was the prototypes. I do know that this must have been done as a budget cut. Exactly like Thomas Wood, and Trackmasters Push along Thomas. Again as an answer to this Busy Book issue, it was budget cuts
  • @trainboss5801
I remember having some of the My Busy Book Engine and I still have a handful still with me (in varying condition). It’s very disappointing how the actual rubber toys are lower quality than the ones before and the photos of them online
  • @Trainlover282
The sad part about these AEG versions is that they're a little bit bigger than the CGI ones, meaning it would be easier to paint them.
  • @mr.slowking_64
Great video Leo, hope we see more of these types of videos
  • @Ajn_animation
it extremely worse that the fact that regular track master All engines GO merch had better details due to its simplicity and yet the classic my busy book from the model or CGI era did better AND THEY HAD ALOT MORE SMALER DETAILS. that's how lazy toy companies have become. Its at a point where they look more like Lead-Based Knock-Off toys. also am I the only one that's weirded out that the fact that the company that owns Thomas gave James a 3rd window in the Online Picture busy books? I had a closer look and it seems that the factory has such lower budget cut they had to use Nia's window prints and gave it to James!
  • @scratchette2803
i dream of having a set up like he does, i always thought all the jars were really cool looking
  • @numptypootis8012
I keep seeing that Hornby Ruston back there, possible return to the model railway stuff soon? Id love to see You just play trains again
  • @PaulKingIII
I hope you have a good holiday Leo!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
