"In the name of hades, Olympus i accept this sequel"
  • @shortfuse9443
They don’t usually do sequels. This has to be something special

I hope Zagreus appears in this game. I want to see Zagreus and Melinoe have Brother and Sister interactions.
  • I can’t even describe how nothing else revealed tonight will come close to how this made me feel. The first game was one of the best games I’ve EVER played. So excited for this.

For anyone wondering. The main protagonist is Melinoe who was a representation of nightmares and madness. She is the daughter of hades or Zeus depending on where you look but looks like hades is the canonical father here. Her mother is Persephone. Interested to see how they incorporate her into the greater “Hades(tm)” franchise.
  • It's been 4 months and this trailer still does things to me

Let it be known that this trailer reached number 2 trending global (not just gaming), right behind the Game Awards themselves. To me more than anything, it shows that people have decided what their favourite announcement of the night was, congrats Supergiant!

Honestly it warmed my heart seeing how the audience cheered for you folks when Supergiant Games appeared on the screen, even before they knew what was going on. Just goes to show how far you have come

Not sure if someone already mentioned it, but Hecate’s VA is also the narrator from Baldur’s Gate 3!

The fact that the general hype behind the first game has hardly died down and this gets announced is amazing. I still havent even finished Hades techincally.
  • @kiddbusiness
I swear when I heard the classic Hades theme I about swelled up and imploded with sheer excitement!!!!
  • @King_Magnus
I just realized that Nemesis wields her Stygius aspect

Almost a year ago I was watching the Game Awards with two friends; one them and I are big fans of the first game. We didn't realize it was a sequel right until 0:56, when we heard that all-too-familiar four-note motif. We started screaming and grabbed each other in the hype; it was amazing I can't wait to play this game; we already know it's going to be something special, just like the first game

Description gave us tons of info; Melinoë and Hecate are the ones in the intro. I was not expecting a sequel due to the way you guys have always operated but I am glad none the less. You're one of the few companies that have never let me down so I feel no fear in being absolutely hyped for Hades 2! Death to Cronos!
  • The mentor Melinoe fights in the animation is Hecate, a chthonic goddess of witchcraft and crossroads and to some extent the moon. She and Melinoe have similar motifs and characteristics, so it's excellent that SuperGiant has brought them together

The founding feature of a roguelike is that the player can make repeated runs, growing stronger each time. The conceit in Hades 1 is that Zagreus just doesn't stay dead (and respawns back at the start) and thus, can make arbitrary repeated attempts to escape Tartarus, ascending upwards. My theory about H2 is that it's about Melinoe descending down from the surface into the depths to confront Chronos... but therein lies the question: how can she cannonically make multiple runs? The key here... is time. I'm betting that Chronos has either some sort of time stop or a time loop running in Tartarus, and that Melinoe is somewhat resistant to this effect, allowing her to descend... but each time she 'dies' she just auto-rewinds to the surface, where those above may or may not be fully aware of what's happening (depending on how affected they are by the time screwery). Hectate acting as the 'first boss' as it were to make sure Mel is prepared to start going deeper, or stop her if she isn't yet. As for the post-game, I'm guessing that the endgame is that Mel beats Chronos enough times to finally re-seal him and free Hades and the others (including probably Zagreus) but the time loop 'lingers' after Chronos proper is defeated, leaving either the final guardian or a time-clone of Chronos in place of the original, allowing the player to keep challenging the game like in Hades 1, with an assurance that the temporal knot will correct itself 'soon enough' or 'eventually' without Chronos to keep it going.

I want this game as an animated series now 😍
