In this episode, we take a look at the life of the third king of the Akkadian Dynasty, Naram-Sin of Akkad. The greatest Akkadian ruler after Sargon, Naram-Sin quashed massive revolts and pushed the borders of the empire further outside of Mesopotamia. His successes made him arrogant and eventually, he thought of himself as a god. This an episode of one of the ancient world's greatest personalities, one that you won't want to miss!

Tiber Septim/Talos: "I'm a world conquering god!" Nebuchadnezzar II: "Worship me mortals I am a golden god!" Caligula: "I am equal to the gods!" Alexandros III "Divinity is me." Naram Sin: "Y'all my sons"

I like how this channel brings these civilizations up. I don't see them mentioned ever and it's nice to see them here. Keep the great work!!

Im loving your videos on Mesopotamia. Keep them coming, Im devouring them up like a lion does to a gazelle
  • Wow! The way that this channel tell the story is amazing: easy to understand and fun. I like it very much. In my opinion regarding the son of Naram-Sin, I think the problems he encountered might have accumulated since Naram-Sin's reign. Coupling with his incompetency as a ruler, it brought the end to Akkadian Dynasty.

Cy, once again thanks for evoking good memories. During my months-long stay in Paris many moons ago, I tried to visit the Louvre as much as possible and as such, I had already seen that majestic victory stele of Naram-sin. You're a great history teacher. Thanks! PS: I wonder if there'll be a chance for you to do ancient Egyptian capitals. If so, please don't forget Amarna. More power!

Hey Cy, new subscriber here! I found your channel just few days ago and I fell in love with it. You speak with such passion and you're so good at explaining these topics, you bring it to life man. And the effort of looking after these pieces of art to ilustrate what you're saying and even describing where they currently are! Although I liked history a lot in school, ancient history was my least favorite and I didn't know why, now I know it was because I didn't have the right teacher. Wish you get the recognition you deserve. Kudos from Brazil!

NARAM-SIN His love for his people ... and his feeling of guilt .. This great king suffered remorse .. But know that he won for his people after these sad words .. Nram Sen says: Frightened, anxious, desperate, tired, I ... I really said this .. from my heart .. What did you leave to judge ..? I am a king who did not protect his country .. A shepherd did not protect his flock .. How will I stabilize my body and continue my path ..? People’s terror, darkness, death, plague, drought ... Dread, frost, devastation, drought ... Famine, calamity, filled the universe ... And it got over their heads .. 💔

Thx man I've been using your videos to educate myself on Mesopotamian history
  • Hey Cy 🙂 great work you're doing! I love watching & listening... seems to me you have a gift! Definitely your vids are a gift to me! Why did Narum - Sin end up with such a negative history lesson when he was so good at his "job"? Because of "becoming" a god?

This guy is my first bet about mapping Quranic character "nemrut". The same goes for Nimrod/nimrood as biblical character. The kingdom goes down the tube in misery, all of a sudden fits too in my opinion.
