A quick comprehensive guide and analysis of Kiri Sully or Kiri te Suli Kìreysì'ite from Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) Explained.

In this breakdown, analysis, reaction and ending explanation we focus on answering the questions, “What are Kiri’s powers?”, “Who is Kiri’s father or dad?”, “Why is Kiri?”, “What does the great mother want from Kiri?”. As well as Kiri’s relationship and mystery surrounding her mother Dr. Grace Augustine; both characters played by Sigourney Weaver. Like looking at video logs from the Site 26 Link Station in the Hallelujah Mountains and the Omatikaya’s Clan’s High Camp.

Mostly, by explaining who Eywa (All-Mother or Great Mother) is, as well as Pandora's Network of Energy and the global consciousness. In order to get to that answer, I go over the Recom Program or Recombination Program, also known as Project Phoenix. Specifically, how the Backups work; comparing the human’s (Sky People’s) RDA Avatar Program technology to the Na’vi’s moon Pandora. Also, exploring her relationship with Tuk, Miles “Spider” Socorro, Jake Sully, Neytiri, Neteyam, and Lo'ak. Miles’ parents, Paz Socorro and Colonel Miles Rick Quaritch, may tear apart their friendship in Avatar 3 (2024).

I use material from deleted scenes from Avatar (2009), the original script, Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora (James Cameron's Avatar), The World of Avatar: A Visual Exploration, Avatar The Way of Water The Visual Dictionary The Visual Dictionary and interviews from James Cameron (Director & Writer) and Deborah Lynn Scott (Costume designer) to help you get the full scope of this character.

  • the fact that kiri was played by a 71 year old is still crazy to me

Honestly her mystery is not hard to figure out. In the first movie Grace says “I’m with her jake she’s real” something within those lines meaning she’s with Eywa. They want you to think Kiri has a dad but she doesn’t at all. She’s like a reincarnation of Grace but the child of Eywa. Also to add why I think she’s a reincarnation of Grace is because Kiri was being born and in the womb of Grace’s body as if she’s being reborn

neytiri going beast mode in the climax was just epic, she wasn't kidding about killing the sky people.

The sky people didn’t break neytiris bow; her vengeful fit of violence in blind murderous anger did, somehow representing responsibility, her father, her heritage. At least, I think it’s something like that. The bow breaking might actually be symbolic of her breaking point having lost her son on top of everything. It’s just reliving her trauma

Kiri is a Skywalker situation. Conceived through the will of the force, Eywa. She's the chosen one.

Sigourney Weaver as Kiri is by far my favorite thing about The Way Of Water! She's just so freaking good at playing an annoyed teenager who is absolutely done with everyone's stupidity.
  • Can we all agree that Q 2.0 was absolutely terrified of Neytiri. It was subtle at first but then every time he saw her arrows he'd get more and more terrified

The world of Avatar is so intimately personal. Every piece of the lore is, in some way, related to the Na'Vi's (and the rest of Pandora's creatures) personal relation to everything around them. Less about Kings and kingdoms, and more about connections. Deep connections and deep love. It really set this series apart from other Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

Kiri is essentially female alien Jesus who was born without a father and goes around performing miracles. I feel like she will be the key to winning the war against humans and preserving peace in the upcoming movies.

I don't think Spider saved his father because he lacked a father figure. Right after he dragged him onto the rocks he hissed at him and took of again. I think Spider saved him, because he owed a debt because the Colonel didn't kill Kiri.

I also noticed Kiri was a hell of a lot more conserative about the way she dresses, like Grace in her avatar was, even covering herself up more when meeting the new Navi. Less comfortable with so much skin showing even if it was the typical Navi way.
  • She’s so freaking cute, the way she’s just so entranced by nature and animals it’s like escapism for her. I know it’s not said in the movie but she’s kinda giving witchy vibes. Kids calling her weird because she just loves the little things around her, her wild kind of magical nature, she likes BOTANY and makes her own medicine pouches, and her connection to god (eywa) is relatable and raw, She’s defintly connected to it all 💕💕
  • Kiri is my favourite character. She's beautifully "different", played so well by Sigourney, and she just looks absolutely adorable. I love her.

I love how she’s like “the child of eywa,” In which she’s much more connected with the world, as eywa brought her to life with Graces avatar.
  • @ninaaaaishere
Eywa birthed her child (that is also Grace's soul) through Grace's Avatar body. Easy to figure out. She is Eywa's carnation, Grace's reincarnation, as Eywa's child. She will be the healing factor that will bring harmony. Not just to Pandora.
  • @WeirdTippy
I have this theory that Kiri is the first daughter of Eywa, she probably has all the knowledge Aywa has but doesn't quite know how to fully access it unless she's in stressful situations... For now. This would also mean that she is the most powerful person on Pandora since she can call upon the flora and fauna for protection when needed which would give her almost limitless power
  • There's something that people haven't noticed from the movie that I find interesting. Grace is active and actually conscious inside Eywa, while the only other Na'vi we see inside the network is basically just reliving their best experiences and favorite memories like a dream. It makes me wonder if the reason that Kiri was born is because the Na'vi, due to having evolved in this ecosystem, basically just upload themselves into a never ending dream letting them live in the best moments of them and their ancestors lives. While Grace, a human mind and of an entirely separate evolutionary path of life, is still conscious fully and appears to be studying Eywa from the inside out. It could that Eywa is and has been dormant for a long long time. With the one human being in her network imbuing a new form of active consciousness that actually pushes Eywa towards actually acting over being an incumbent hive mind. The Na'vi themselves said Eywa's will must be interpreted and that she does not take sides. Grace and her memories of Earth finally pushed Eywa to movement and it's not stopping. TLDR; Grace basically caused Eywa to download some new software and is now actively participating in the biosphere that forms her to fend off the outside threat of humans, with Kiri not only a Messiah figure, but also Eywa's new physical instrument upon her world
  • @MidnightQ
It broke my heart to see her crying after after she woke up from her seizure 😢 but she’s my favorite character 😊
  • Kiri is the most fascinating character in the movie. Her connection to Eywa is what makes her so special and unique.
  • Notice how the title was about Kiri and he ended up mentioning most if not all characters and the animals of pandora and overall Eywa. Everything is tied together brilliantly! James Cameron is a legend.
