Been around computers for about 50 years. Shutting down and restarting to clear the memory and allow a reset has always been the rule. Our phones are just small computers and have all of the same issues as regular computers. I have had almost zero problems by adopting this practice. I have friends who don’t do this and have issues. Cheers.
  • Since my first phone with a camera, years and years ago, I covered the camera lens with tape. People made fun of me. And now here it is in the nsa website. Fascinating.

On Android, there's an Auto Restart option, you can set it automatically for everyday. Device Care button- Last Auto Restart (set time etc)

My work colleague was surprised to learn this. I restart my phone at least every few days as sometimes I come home and it won't connect to the WiFi but does after a restart 🤷

My friends are always surprised when I explain why a 're start' is essential on just about every mobile device going.

I either restart or do a full power down and power back on at least weekly, mostly because it keeps it running smoothly. A lot of iPhone users I talk to think iOS is so perfect it doesn't need it but after I convince them to do a restart, they're shocked to see how it actually runs better. The security aspect is a great bonus too!!

Right on! I turn mine completely off when I go to sleep, and mostly because of what I've learned here.

You should also reboot your phone to optimise some of your apps due to constant crashes. I remember that I had my bus ticket app crashing and immediately exited. I did a reboot and this got immediately fixed. A reboot clears memory cache as well (mentioned in video) to aleviate crashes and other problems. Reboots solves almost any problem your devices are facing.

It amazes me how often the app developers update the app code. Someone told me it's because of all these new exploits they discover every day. Certainly the hackers are keeping the developers on their toes! Anytime there are app updates or system updates I always reboot, and it's usually once a week or so. Even for app only updates, I'm sure there is junk code left behind and a reboot clears it all away. Also true of PCs, tablets, routers and other devices that can be exploited - even printers.

I always turn my phone off when i sleep. I do not need any notifications or calls in the middle of the night. I guess my beauty sleep is paying off.
