Episode two begins in the heat of battle of the 1973 Arab-Israeli War 50 years ago.

Egyptian tanks had made a successful amphibious crossing of the Suez Canal and retaken part of the Sinai. And in the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967, a fierce battle raged between Syrian and Israeli forces.

In the first five days of the war, Israeli losses alone in the Golan Heights amounted to 250 tanks and hundreds of men.

These decisive opening days of the war saw both sides make significant gains but at the same time, suffer heavy losses.

It was a battle that would continue for several more months - and five decades later, the political fallout from this conflict is still being felt in parts of the Middle East.

This show is ruthless, but probably fair, in pointing out the immense incompetence and arrogance in the Egyptian military and political class.
  • I think this was the best one yet, less bias and the music makes it very dramatic.

The documentary comes across as if Israel has complete agency in its capabalities, there's little mention of its reliance on the U.S such as Nixons 'Operation Nickel Grass' which was the codename for a strategic airlift conducted to deliver weapons and supplies to Israel during the 1973 Arab–Israeli War. Between 14 October and 14 November of that year, the Military Airlift Command of the United States Air Force shipped approximately 22,325 tons of supplies, including tanks, artillery, and ammunition, in multiple flights of C-141 Starlifters and C-5 Galaxys.

As an Israeli it makes me sad to see how much time we’ve wasted fighting each other when we could’ve been friends.

That president owes the Egyptian army apology from the grave. Syria was inadequately trained, numbers, men, equipment were not in short supply. Syria would have swept them aside otherwise.

You hear alot of arabs try speaking like they won or that Egypt took back the Sinai... but actually isreal won and gave Egypt the Sinai back in hopes of forging peace... a show of good faith

Interesting to see many arab countries trying to overwhelm Israel at the time

After spending decades, together with the deaths of countless soldiers and civilians, none of the wars waged by Arab nations against Israel resulted in its annihilation or defeat. Instead, Israel triumphed in every war since 1948 and emerged stronger together with territorial gains as well. Arab countries like Egypt & Jordan chose to recognize Israel and accept their right to exist as a nation, thus sparing their people and military from further wars and needless deaths
