Since this conference went semi-viral, there are people that are calling for physical protest, and for contacting the bishop. Kennedy Hall has given his YouTube followers Laura's email address and phone number, and one example of a troll message is below (warning: it is graphic): . . . . "Do you like the taste of Lucifer's ass? Do you feel all squishy and warm inside when you do the work of your father the devil?"

Hey Dom praying for you and everyone at the conference! May the peace of God preserve you.

Thank you Dom, I have been feeling the same about all of this rad trad vs trad back and forth.   Our family has definitely suffered a type of spiritual abuse from 26 years of SSPX’s ecclesiology but we want to move away from attacking. I do believe the road to healing is when we show mercy. Though, I personally will not accept SSPX excuses for leaving the church and their deceits and I will challenge those in my parish that go to their masses and spiritual conferences. They are a dangerous group that does cause confusion, division, and leads many into sedevacantism. God bless your unifying efforts!

Cyrus here. There you go with "longing" again. Longing is an ongoing idea of mine in the reconquest of true humanity. Desire is mine, but longing is a call from outside me. And when it is true it is always from the Lord.

This conference is providential and much needed. Thank you for organizing it.

For most of my life I only knew the Novus Ordo. I knew almost nothing of the Vetus Ordo. When I got into my 50s I started becoming increasingly disturbed by the horrible music and practices encountered during Mass. The lay people distributing Communion at every Mass and swarming around the altar, Communion in the hand, dropped Hosts, the casual attitude during the Sign of Peace, Marty Haugen and other horrible music constantly being played on the piano, priests telling jokes and pacing around during homilies, people loudly chatting before and after Mass. I could go on and on. It really began to bother me so I left to find a parish that didn't have these elements but it was difficult because these are common practices across the board in the Novus Ordo. For a brief period I went to a Byzantine Liturgy but eventually found my way into a diocesan Vetus Ordo 45 minutes from my home. The relief it brought my soul was immediate! My question is where is the Novus Ordo recovery conference? Why is there a stubborn refusal to address the abuses that still occur? Why won't most priests and bishops lift a finger to protect our Lord in the Eucharist by banning Communion in the hand and using patens to prevent Hosts from dropping to the floor? Why do they make it hard for people like me to kneel to receive Communion by not providing altar rails or kneelers? Why can't Extraordinary Ministers of Communion be used only for truly EXTRAORDINARY circumstances rather than ordinary ones? Why can't people genuflect when passing the tabernacle? Until these basic issues are addressed, I will stick to the Vetus Ordo where I don't feel like my soul is being assaulted.

I'm not so sure if this is a misunderstanding. I no longer attend the SSPX but go to NO Masses. Despite the fact that I'm still a practising Catholic and go to Mass several times a week, people from my old SSPX parish can't seem to accept it. To them it's almost like I left the faith. I also heard some horror stories from people who grew up in FSSP. But your charitable approach is commendable Dom. God bless.

I think there's two main ways or streams through which Traditional Catholicism (with the SSPX or any other TLM provider) can be practised. One way is to sit on the periphery and build up your faith through regularly attending the TLM strengthened with your own self-study (e.g. of the early Church Fathers; Thomism; Medieval Mystics; Catholic Literature - Tolkien, Chesterton etc.) and do your socialising mainly with non-Trad friends (e.g. going to Rock concerts with middle of the road people, having a decent drink to relax etc.) - this is the kind of approach I've adopted for 40+ years (I don't come from a Traditional Catholic family background making this approach easier, of course). The second less cautious approach is to aim quickly for the epicentre (or to be born into it, of course) which I think can sometimes be a very difficult ride. I also think that there are two main social streams within the Traditional Catholic laity (and clergy): a moderate group mainly interested in Traditional Catholic religiosity versus a more militant (kind of political) group that can end up doing silly things (e.g. claiming anyone that they don't like is 'demonic'). Thus, concerning sociology, I can see at least 2-3 really interesting opposing processes being at play: religious seekers trying to grow into Traditional Catholicism periphery style or (sometimes loud) epicentre style; and some people who have been brought up on it growing out of it. Overall, my view of the Traditional Catholic world would be something like: TC religiosity = fascinating; most TC morality fine (but not a common liking for the death penalty); TC sociology = a minefield.

That's a fair corrective you made. My concern is when the target goes beyond sede or the more extreme SSPX opinions. I'm thinking of Michael who goes well beyond critiquing those groups of radtrads. He's infamous for grouping many canonically regular people with them. Active and high ranking prelates, esteemed theologians, his own former friends, etc. Another eyebrow raiser would be the recommendation of Where Peter Is as one of the healthy resource on the tradrecovery website. You don't have to be radtrad, or even trad, to seriously question the judgement of someone who recommends that outlet. Nothing against you personally, just that the tradrecovery project may endorse pitfalls of its own in the eyes of those Catholics making a stink on social media (excluding radtrads I must reiterate).

What's your favorite recording of the 13th Piano Concerto?
  • @learningCatholic
Thanks so much can you please post a list of those book titles you mentioned in the video? I think I badly need to read them .
  • Dom, I thank you and other people like Michael for speaking out against (false) traditionalism. I advocated for traditionalism a few years ago, but it got to a point where I basically believed that the Magisterium can habitually err, which is basically a form of practical protestantism. I'm glad that I am now seeing people point out the errors that made me a dissenter.
  • @markrome9702
Thanks for the video. Well done. I will make sure to use Rad Trads (SSPX and Sedes) when discussing this with others.
  • @javaman8895
Good job Dom. We need more sane and level headed people who love the Church to help those who have taken a steps in the wrong direction.
  • @JHTotusTuus
5:58 then you all shouldn’t say that on the flyer and website. Context and clarity would’ve been very simple. You and all who are participating in this are asking for people to be offended and you’re asking to be accused of alienating your fellow brothers & sisters in Christ Also, I know Michael Lofton absolutely stands by every word of the description of this conference.
  • @malulani056
Tradition is not a disease or disorder. It does not require recovery or a 12-step program like alcoholism. You guys are attacking fellow Catholics with this. I am a trad, and proud of it. I value the traditions of the church, the old mass, Latin, Gregorian chant and beauty. I’m not in need of any recovery.
  • @jedipadawan7023
I wish someone would explain how the Novus Ordo Mass is actually a restoration of the ancient form of the Mass and NOT this innovation everything thinks it is. And whenever I post that... youtube deletes my posts! I am not allowed to explain what prayers the Mass draws from!
