*starts picking new cards to make another deck* My friend: "bro wtf are you doing? We're in the middle of a duel" Me: "It says to make a new deck"

I was a 13-year-old kid living in a Spanish-speaking country when I got my hands on a Starter Deck Pegasus. You bet your ass reading the Relinquished effect was a trip.
  • @Spoon8lld
I had to call a judge at a locals when my opponent was using an old Necrovalley, and someone playing near us yelled “just read the card!” If only it was that simple...
  • Card: You "can" ritual summon this card with Black Illusion Ritual. Me: I'll just normal summon it because apparently it's optional!
  • That's actually so sad that darkness approaches got updated. Face down attack position sounds so fun.
  • Penguin Knight cracks me up. The original is confusing, and then Konami is like, "Oh, by the way, combine means unite. Hope that helps!" Absolute classic.
  • Nobody: Penguin Knight: "Unite your cards! We ride at dawn!"
  • @s4ad0wpi
Easier language for Penguin Knight 'When this card is sent directly from your Deck to your Graveyard by an opponent's card effect, shuffle your Graveyard into your Deck."
  • So Reverse Trap used its own effect to increase the amount of text in its errata?
  • With Reverse Trap, I remember an interpretation that the "...increases and decreases to ATK and DEF are reversed" meant that ATK changes got applied to DEF, and DEF changes got applied to ATK. It's bad when there are three vastly different interpretations to the same card text, and without an official Upper Deck ruling handy, this could result in fisticuffs.

I genuinely believe my reading comprehension was greatly bumped ahead of other kids partly due to constantly reading shit like relinquished's effect and other confusing effects.
  • @Dw7freak
This is where the old games are very helpful. Even if it's confusing, because the rulings were made using the OCG text and rulebook, there wasn't any issue with the cards. For example, since Relinquished is a Ritual monster, the games wouldn't let you summon it without doing a Ritual summon.
  • When you need a magnifying glass to see relinquished text, you’d think they’d think about how to shorten it before releasing it
  • @pukalo
The original Thousand Eyes Restrict text that was almost impossible to read
  • When I was a kid, I was adamant that Reverse Trap meant reverse ATK & DEF - as in, something that gives 1000 ATK would instead give 1000 DEF
  • When I was a kid playing Kaiba the Power on PC and won Penguin Knight, I got excited cause I legitimately thought it would form a random deck of cards which would've meant I get to use cards I haven't won yet
  • @XandyGiti
Penguin Knight is broken, after the first effect resolves you can pick all the extra cards you have in front of your opponent and just form a new deck based on the match.
  • @Jorch101
Narrator (with a mysterious voice): And so... a new deck was formed...
  • Gilasaurus will be the best. Consider the normal a special it's the finest of the confusion
