Omg Georgia! I'm so happy that you are finally looking at the show I worked on! Mizu is a wonderfully complex character that I really like! I hope you enjoyed the show 😁

Absolutely. The mother and daughter were still alive at the gate when Mizu left them the hair clip. She isn't heartless; she's buried her heart.

I don't think she lacks empathy, she just lacks an ability to express empathy in small interactions and in a way which other people understand readily.
  • I definitely hope you do more from this series! You don't get a full understanding of Mizu until episode 5.

Id agree that the bullying definitely made Mizu stronger to a point, but the Mizu we follow through the story is tempered with glimpses of kindness and happiness in between the harsh reality. The blacksmith and the horse tamer. Those times allowed her to 'come up for air' just long enough to not truly become heartless.

To answer the question. I would say Sword Father made her stronger not the bullying. The bullying made her put on a cold face to the world. Cornered animals will strike out. Even if we say the bullying created focus by removing distraction. What was chosen to focus on was still self destructive. Which I notice happens without a mentor of some type.
  • The one big theme the series seemed to have is (self)-loathing. Mizu hates who she is, she hates one side of her heritage. The main villain is likewise broken despite incredibly smart and competent at whatever craft he wants to master, he hates himself with passion and lots of survivors guilt on top of that and indulging in every possible perversion just to dull the pain for a moment.

I think Mizu is the best character we’ve been given in the last few years. In the show, we don’t see her defining moments until they are relevant to the given episode, but it all tracks.

Your costume is absolutely perfect. I love Mizu so much, such a badass and a great character to analyze.
  • As someone who was born with a physical disability, I loved Mizu because I completely understand her struggle with the world.
  • As a huge fan of Ninjas and Samurai, this show was everything I wanted and had a lot more than I knew I wanted. It’s just magnificent and beautiful. I loved seeing Mizu grow from a stoic and hardened warrior, to a more open and emotional woman willing to accept who she is and when faced with the man who ruined her life, let him live to face true justice. This was absolutely the best thing I’ve seen from Netflix since Arcane and Rise of the TMNT. I’m definitely looking forward to Season 2

Sublime cosplay yet again, Georgia. You make my heart happy! I don't have blue eyes. My Dad did, though. I'm a card carrying aboriginal, who had a tuft of blonde hair. = ) Several boys threw rocks at me in the first grade. (Got my first stitches) Second grade, five boys tired to beat me up. They failed. I can also relate because I have trained with katana. Dual wielding now. = ) My experiences led me to have MORE empathy, though. Not less.

9:47 the way you tilted your head down just to see better made me laugh lol. I love how you pointed out all these small details like how she only intervened in that gun scene because she recognized the gun. "Mizu suppresses empathy, not lack it" is a very good analysis which is why I can't wait for more!

Blue Eye Samurai!!!🤩 Thank you Georgia for making a video on Mizu.🙏🏼 She’s amazing and a badass. Her origin is very emotional, since she’s been treated like an outcast throughout her entire life. Also, I love your glasses! You’re totally rocking it as Mizu.😍

YOOOOSSSS, Mizu is such a fascinating character

People has called me annoying so many times when i was little since I was five, it became a trigger word. A middle schooler on the bus telling a five year old over and over to shut up, you're annoying. Imagine being so angry at a five year old.
  • @Josmic_1
Very excited to see your reactions for this series. It was easily my favorite Netflix animation since Arcane
  • @MrHarbltron
I was bullied quite a bit when I was younger, and it truly has made it very difficult to trust people. Strength is a complicated concept; is someone who is emotionally open stronger because they can bear their heart to someone, or is it the person who can keep their emotions under lock-and-key? I've come to believe the former is true, that vulnerability is strength, but it's very hard to fight against that deep-seated distrust and fear of ridicule and betrayal.

Im so here for more Blue Eye Samurai. Both the antagonists and protagonists in the series are written so well character-wise. SO GOOD
  • @BadPenny3
I hope you do more on Blue Eye Samurai, I'm watching it for a second time right now. Soooooo good.
